Lately I can't help but shake the feeling that we're going downhill. I'll admit that I'm not Einstein but I've never failed at anything that I've really put my mind to. I make mistakes like anyone else, but the difference I notice is that while I try tofind ways to prevent it from happening again, most people around me don't learn anything from them. They're perfectly content doing what they've always done, the same way they always have and are surprised when SHTF again. It drives me mad.

I've been drinking a bit tonight so I may not be as articulate as I would normally be. Every night this week it's about the only thing that's calmed me down from dealing with the idiocracy. Maybe that movie a prediction.

In the past 5 years, often I've asked myself "how did you become in charge of this?" in terms of work-related crap. It might be a symptom of a larger problem, though. Possibly the Peter Principle with some attrition worked in.

No. That happened in 1986.

Half-assed is the new normal.  Guys like us used to go the extra mile, read the manuals, stress over getting it right and staked our self worth on results.  The new crop of young engineers I've been dealing with are very casual, half-assed and don't seem to mind getting it wrong.  They're bright, no doubt, but they have a very childish notion about the workplace, IMO.

This ain't school,son.

Atleast you finally noticed OP...

...many a person hasn't figured out that they are indeed helping to cause the downward slope that we are on...

Yea, yea, it has been going on for a while. I'm hitting my late 20's and I guess over the last year or two I've just become more perceptive of it. I work for a company that has, for the first time ever, hit the "billion dollar" mark in sales for a fiscal year, and I'm looking around, thinking about all the blunders that I've personally had to clean up, as well as the others that I haven't, and I'm thinking "How?" I'm embarrassed more than I'm impressed these days.
