Can't own a duck but you can own a dog that has a bigger chance of harming someone. I'd understand if it was a large farm animal. Kinda feel bad for the judge having his hands tied on the verdict.  Stupid laws are stupid.   good for him finding a way to deal with ptsd

speaking of unusual pets, where i worked, we had a discussion about service dogs, and how some blind people had OTHER animals, and how airlines only allowed service animals on the plane.

what if you trained something absurd....like a toucan?

I mean, if it does its job as a service animal, what can they really say?

The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. If they meet this definition, animals are considered service animals under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a state or local government.

Can I get my snake certified as a service animal?

Keep it in a critter keeper cage in public, to help with my fear of crowds?

I've been following this story since CBS first ran it many weeks ago. I was dismayed and ultimately outraged when I read the result of the town hearing on the matter. I contacted the writer of the story for "The Coshocton Tribune" this afternoon and left him a voicemail requesting how I could pay Darin Welker's $50 fine. This is just the beginning.

Here in Arizona if I recall a year or two ago they made it legal to have a miniature horse as a service animal. At least I am pretty sure that was the case.

I have to admit, he really does seem happy holding that duck...and not in a DK kinda way, either.

Never thought of ducks as being therapeutic, but then again getting attacked by a swan as a small child eliminated any sort of inclination to thinking of birds as potential pets.
