As a spinoff from this thread I thought Shane deserves his own thread, lest he get lost in the seas of cheese.  The Pogues, The Popes, whatever, post 'em up!

Saw him supporting Elvis Costello in '83. Saw him at Brixton Academy in about '92.

He was so drunk he could barely talk, and slurred his way through the songs.

Watched the documentary on him the other day, in most of it he was so drunk he could barely talk....

Wrote some good songs for sure, but damn - put the bottle down for a while. He came across as a cliche, everyone expects him to be drunk all the time...so he is.

Surprised he's not dead to be honest.

Barely staying on his feet, looking like an old dyke but still a great song :)

Saw the Pogues do a St. Patrick's Day show a few years back.

Frankly, having been a fan for so long and knowing Shane's reputation, I was expecting it to be a complete disaster.

Surprisingly, Shane was... as close to sober as he gets, and he actually sounded good.

Wasn't let down in the least. (He is a fucking mess though. It's sad.)

Saw him in 03, he had a pint glass glued to his hand for the entire show.

"Fairytale of New York" is the best Christmas song out there.

Sort of like seeing Bad Brains live, you never know if it's a night HR is off his meds.

Macgowan also wrote the love song for the new How To Train Your Dragon movie, it's "The Dancing & The Dreaming".  Great tune.

It seems he's doing better considering... Victoria Mary Clark tweets of him fairly often, most recently one I remember is of him and a ecig. I'm sure he's toned down the drinking too but obviously he will never quit.

Heres her Facebook for anyone interested has some good pictures of what Shanes been up to, he honestly looking pretty good comparably.

From Sid and Nancy (and when Sinead, actually looked hot:

Great tribute to Ronnie Drew, and plenty of Irish talent.  Bono may have been the 'ringleader', but Shane fucking stole the show:
