ETA: It is the lower left button near the lanyard loop.

At least it's got a decocker, which is also the safety.

Which would also mean in addition to being DAO, that new style magazines won't work, correct?

Looks like it.  It doesn't have the right kind anyway.

One of the huge reasons some of them have been participating in Iraq and Afghanistan. They've all but lost the institutional knowledge necessary to a military.

According to http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg/it/beretta-92-e.html, the 92S was made between 1976 and 1981. Doesn't take newer mags. I was interested at first but I'll pass.

Pass.  Was about to order then saw the DA only and mag release. Would have been a buy otherwise.

At 3 bills, the DAO wasn't a deal breaker.  The stupid mag release is though.

Mags are a non issue.  Beretta OEM 15 round mags have the right notch, as well as the previous generation Mec Gar mags (including 17 round).

Can't you find a dremmel?

I think someone FUBARed the description.  Those are not DAO.  When the 92S was being produced DAO wasn't available.  I guess it is possible they pulled the sear out of these to make them DAO, but that would be an easy fix to convert back to DA/SA.

The European style magazine release is more of an issue for me, although some of my Beretta mags do have that cut in addition to the American style cut.

I bought a 92S a couple of years ago.  Saw it at a gun show and almost passed on it when the seller told me I would have to order mags online.  Checked on the mags on my phone and saw them on Midway USA, Beretta factory mags for $16.99 that would work.  Order three before I left the parking lot.  Mine's not DAO, but it's a fine shooter and very nicely finished.  Using the mag release is a little tricky at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly.  I don't have bear paws for hands anyway, so the 92S setup might be better for me anyway.

DAO is easily change with the addition of the SA/DA sear, and hammer.

That 92S is the worst of both worlds.

Slide safety, and heel release.

Looking at the hammer, I can't help but wonder if these are DAO the "lazy" way, and they may only need the sear, as that hammer may already have the SA notch (DA only 92's have a flush hammer, like a DAK Sig, but I've only seen DAO 92F's, and later).

Upside: These were made before Beretta determined that the 92's would be better off not being blued, but covered in that shitty black paint.

ETA: If you want mags, you'll need any mag that looks like these.

Also as a slight bonus, these mags are 100% interchangeable with old Taurus PT92's with the heel release, as those are a 1:1 copy of the original Beretta 92 made off of machinery straight from Beretta themselves. Current PT92's have a slightly different release position than the 92FS, because the thumb release for both were developed independently from each other.

Cool.  does this  model have the 1000 round slide   life expectancy, like the US  military version ?
Because that would be  a real bargain.

Pistol  that only cost 30 cents  per  round, that would be  almost as cheap as ammo to feed it.

Looks like a good deal for a nice older Beretta. I have no use for one but that would be a good buy. A lot better that a Sigma or something in that price range.

If it is a true DAO....which I find weird because normally a 92D has a spur-less hammer that is flush with the rear end of the slide... then a "D" spring would help out immensely.

$300 for a pristine looking Beretta is not a bad deal at all... Make a good nightstand gun or center console gun for the car.

EDIT:  yeah, the magazine release button location sucks, but if the poop were to hit the fan, if you can't solve it with the first 15 rounds, you got bigger problems.
