The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias manifesting in two principal ways: unskilled individuals tend to suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than is accurate, while highly skilled individuals tend to rate their ability lower than is accurate. In unskilled individuals, this bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude. Skilled individuals tend to underestimate their relative competence, erroneously assuming that tasks which are easy for them are also easy for others. View Quote some wiki article |

I'm probably OK because there are a lot of things I look back at and think "that was pretty fucking dumb".

It's not just intelligence. People pretty consistently overestimate their driving skill level.

A trained monkey can do my job. Really. Its not hard.
No one at my company can do my job. I also don't start fires, cause floods and any problems which are caused by me, I can fix myself. That is not the case with my coworkers. |

This certainly explains how someone could be proud of affixing a Sheila Jackson-Lee bumper sticker to their vehicle.

I read a pretty good book on that topic: "Why We Make Mistakes" by Joseph T. Hallinan.
He discusses how our own biases and inability to see how we can make mistakes causes us to do just that. He also gives some pretty good tips on how to look at yourself and you decisions objectively so you can prevent being the stupid person who doesn't realize he/she is dumber than a box of rocks. |

"How 47%,of Americans voted for Obama while exposing how smart they are."

In other words, stupid people are stupid and they are too stupid to know they are stupid?

About 75% of people rate themselves as "above average" drivers. |

I think paying someone to conduct a study to state the obvious is pretty fucking stupid.

I've taken legitimate intelligence tests several times.
I know exactly how likely it is I'm the smartest guy in a given room. What terrifies me, is I'm kind of a dumbass, and average Joe is wayyy worse off. |

After living 60 years I`m convinced that I`m in the top 1% mentally physically and financially. The real word interpretation of that statement is that I`m an idiot surrounded by less than desirable people any time I go outside my home.

Am I supposed to say how dumb I am in an effort to cover up my intelligence? Not surprisingly I'm confused and have no idea what's going on. For the record, I think my intelligence should be measured by the fact I still and most likely always will laugh at farts |

A more intelligent person would realize that Dunning Kruger refers to skills people possess not innate intelligence.
