I'm looking to set up a range into the woods behind our condo/apartment. Problem is, there's not a lot of room to set up outside so I'm thinking of setting up my "bench" in my living room and going out through the door into the woods. I'm really looking to just practice my fundamentals, I won't be doing any "tacticool" shooting, just working on things like breathing, trigger control, NPOA, etc.

Thanks.

How big is your condo ?

ETA: Do you have long hallways with some old books and sofas you can stuff at one end ? These things matter for indoor shooting in condo's.

Dry fire.  It's a thing.

Subsonics are still pretty damn loud inside your home.

Considering it's an "apartment/condo" I'd assume it's illegal...have you checked all applicable laws?

No way. In my Marlin 795, my CCI subsonics sound like a BB gun. I bet a CB cap would probably be just as good as a real silencer without paying a $200 permission tax to the feds.

Do you own a can?

Do your neighbors share one or more walls with you?

Will your rounds be passing through common areas?

Why would I be shooting through walls? I'd be going out the back door and into the woods.

No kids around here. All adults in their early 30's to late 60's, all with no kids. The HOA rules don't allow for kids.

Shoot in your basement. Just get a .22 lead trap and have fun. Don't miss, and if you do, watch for ricochets.

You really need to re-think this idea
You're wiling to put yourself at risk by contaminating your living space, you live in a condo where you are most likely well within the mandatory minimum distance from neighbors homes...

You're shooting into a wooded area that you don't have sole control over with an unknown backstop/ range fan area that's most likely inadequate for any caliber

I would not shoot from inside the house to outside the house.
You never know when someone might walk around the corner that you can't see.
I started to do this last year. FWIW: I own 18 acres and was shooting from inside my shed (BIG shed) to a target outside. I was doing this so I could shoot in the rain/snow/and have no one see me doing it.  Distance was about 25 yards. It is probably silly, but I couldn't relax, not knowing if someone or something might enter into the flight path of my bullet and I wouldn't know it until it was too late because I was inside the building. The chances of this in my case are very remote. But possible.

I also wouldn't shoot inside the house, suppressor or not. I have done this in the past and the room quickly fills with smoke. This smoke contains lead. You are not only breathing the fumes but you are also contaminating your house. Not to mention that a miss, would damage something you don't want damaged. Again, this is speaking from personal experience . Today, I have a basement and shoot airguns all the time. At one time I lived in the city and didn't have a basement. I shot thousands upon thousands of pellets into very tight groups down the hall way. One day I had an AD and shot out a window. By AD I mean that I missed the bullet trap by like an inch. I had the gun pointed in the general direction of the target and was messing with my equipment and ADed

Dry firing is the way to go.
If you arn't satisfied with that, buy a GOOD air rifle or pistol Also buy a legitimate bullet trap. I have shot indoors using things like a telephone book or a Sears catalog (I don't know if they even still exist) and the result is a mess of shreaded paper you have to clean up. Bullet traps for a .22 are not expensive. I have two.

Of course where I live, shooting, even outside on my property is perfectly legal. YMMV

Have you discussed this with your condo's board and/or managers? This seems like a fantastic idea for a condo/apartment. I can see the brochure now; "Luxurious marble counter tops, new appliances, 1500+ sqft of living and storage, plus; shooting out of the living room and into the woods out back is totally cool!" You'll enjoy your life at Browning Marlin Townhomes and Estates!"

Go for it. Fuck it. Shoot at an exterior wall, get a 4x8 sheet of plywood for backing, keep a window open in the room and a vent fan going. Fuck it. You going to let your landlord or Johnny Law be the boss of you?

ETA: Sorry, thought we were talking about shooting inside the condo. That's a no brainer if you're shooting outside. Maybe hang up a little bit of caution tape or a red flag if the range is hot, just in case there's kids and shit back there.
