Author was no deep thinker. He fails in logic. The militarization of police is due to citizen backlash. This backlash is due to politicians passing inane laws for the sole purpose of justifying their existence. Imagine if you will a term in Congress where no laws were passed, it would be awesome.

Eh....I am a mechanic...I have heard and seen more crap about other mechanics then you would believe..many times fixing their screw up..You will never ever hear me toeing a line defending a screw up, and if I see one screwing up I have no issue telling the customer..Now, I know many leo share that same sentiment about their screw up co-workers, but yet we still see story after story here about another screwup(I put them all under that heading regardless weather it was on purpose or just lack of thought)and many leo trying in some vain way to reason out how we as adults couldn't possible be right..even when down the road the story update finds the leo was fired/sued/jailed as the case maybe)...I respect good cops that honor the oath they swore to......the rest of them..well if I was king for a day...they would be sweeping the streets with a broom....

I hear you. Defending the indefensible does them no good and just looks assinine. The threads I'm thinking of are the ones where there's a story with a few details then it goes on and on and on with all sorts of speculation. Just like a mechanic there are reasons you do what you do and / or can't do certain things and if someone has zero knowledge of the craft they often overlook those finer but important details and focus their arguments on emotion.

Ever written a warrant affidavit? Lying and embellishing in front of a judge isn't exactly my idea of a good time. I'm sure there are some that do. I guess I'm too much of a pussy to even entertain that though. Or.... maybe I just think it's immoral.

I certainly don't think most warrants are gotten under 'false' pretenses, involving lying and other skullduggery. I do think many are gotten where the LEO kinda calls it in (sometimes literally?), and the judge doesn't give two fucks what he's signing, as long as the form BZ/ST/486/C has the proper dotted t's and crossed i's.

ETA: But no, I've never filled one out. Or even seen one.

The idea of LEO always having to sit down and fill out paperwork that a judge sits at his desk and studies, then signs his name with his fountain pen and "now you have a warrant" is ridiculous and not at all how it has to go down.

It's a lengthy process that we have to go through.

They want to push for telephonic warrants to speed the process, but it's still a process between the judge and prosecutor.

Cops have little to do with legitimate political complaints about government and the state of the country. It has become a knee-jerk reaction here, cops = government omg Gestapo! As soon as we have a republican president you'll see all the cop threads die down. Because of Obama the current narrative here is to To attack anything that has to do with government even when has little relevance.  It's silly.

Okay. So I'm not alone. So, just a hypothetical, you have a mod who has mod powers but knows that no one else (other than other mods, site staff, etc) can see that he is a mod who jumps into the fray, belittles members, argues with them, all because he knows that no one can see he has that status. What do you guys think about that?

Doc, you know that I respect you.  Always have.

But you are as wrong as you can be about this.  You can look on the first page of the site and Moderator's names are highlighted, and Staff's are also in a different color.

You can click on any forum at the top and see who is a Moderator in that Forum.  You can even click on the Member's User Info and the Forums where they Moderate are listed.  Look at mine and see what I am talking about.

Moderators are not chosen because they are "experts" in their Forum, but because they have demonstrated the ability to apply the COC fairly.  We are closely monitored by Staff and will be corrected if we mess up.  It is a non-paying job, and we do it because we want to give something back to the site.

Staff bends over backwards to be sure they treat everyone fairly.  They will quickly correct each other if they cross the line.

Simply put, you are out of your lane and posting false information.  You are a better man than that, so quit it.

Hell I never knew he was a mod either. So you aren't alone there Doc.

I understand why an individual officer would see it as a good thing, they are just taking care of number one.  This is fine right up until you think of the big picture.

Why should a guy that maybe has a degree in basket weaving to get the job that only requires a GED have more earning potential than a guy that pays to put himself through school for a decade more or less?  This question is even worse when you realize that the second guy has a shit-load more personal financial liability.

An excellent read.
I will warn the anti-cop members here..keep your posts with in the CoC or you will be shown the door.
Argue the merits of this article all you want. Attack cops (including our LEO members here) because they are cops and you will be gone from the site.

An excellent read would be "some cops are jackasses but most are decent law abiding citizens".

The fact that you see that as a good thing and not the horrible problem that it really is, is telling.

Sounds like lack of education/income envy to me...

To borrow a line from Extorris..

My pension and benefits will be far more over the course of a lifetime than probably what most doctors may make.

COL depending.

Just pointing out that it's far from envy.

This just in...

I decided to go toWendy's instead of Awful House. I noticed an HPD cruiser keeping tabs on me, but I didn't get yanked going into the drive-through, so what-evs, right? About 200 ft out the parking lot came a cruiser with flashing blue lights. I kept my seat belt on and signaled, immediately pulling into another parking lot.

The Occifer approached and I had already lowered my window. He asked for my license (which is odd because around these parts it's the Holy Trinity...License, Registration, and Insurance.) I handed him my license, my CHP, and apologized for not having my County ID. He was clearly younger than me, but I did the yes, sir, no sir thing as usual.

He came back and asked a few questions about insurance and ownership of the vehicle...I have insurance and the Truck is (was) on loan from my dad. It has the "Extremely Right Wing" and VCDL and God knows what else all over the bumper. During this time another cruiser showed up and the Occifer that yanked me waived them away (I could hear him say "nope all good. I got this.")

Apparently my dad transferred the title to me without telling me.

Anyways...he said "I'm going to let you go on your way since your a county employee, but you need to make sure you have your insurance and registration straight."

And here I am, after having consumed a spicy chicken sandwich, pulled pork french fries, and a coke.

CSB, right?

If you're on here Occifer, thanks for being cool and keep it up!

We don't set our pay.

Only in certain areas of the US can you pull a wage like that.

Here we start at $29k a year.

  And?

You think one article is representative of the hundreds of thousands of police in this country?

We also train year round for active shooters, counter ambush, etc.

How often do you think that happens?

You snipped out the pertinent parts.   I was responding to your claim that it's only an Arfcom thing.    It was such a bizarre claim, that I had to respond.

The very first hit was from a LEO website.    What are the odds I found the only article, right at the top, on my first try?

Who pays for it?

Is it part of the "benefits" ?

Who pays for what? The degrees?

We don't, but some towns do, 100% with a grade of C or better.

Because that's what makes America a damn great place to live. Sounds like the second guy in your scenario should've scrutinized his future more efficiently.
