currently have a TA31F on a 20in A4, thinking about picking up a TA01NSN or TA01 for my M4gery build

I have two. Really like the crosshairs, and the fact I can usually get them for a good bit cheaper than the TA31.

I would use the TA01 on the A4 for precision, and the TA31 on the M4 for speed.

Good optic, poor eye relief. Not for fast shooting like a BAC reticle.

Good optic, eye relief is really no different than a TA31.  I've owned a couple of them, but have recently switched over to TA31RCOs.  I would certainly buy another if the price was right, last couple I owned were bought for under $500.

Poor eye relief. Can be difficult with contact lenses. Still used a stupid BDC instead of a proper cross hair with mil or moa markings.

I like having the RMR on top for close in vs the BUIS on the NSN. I am a fan of the crosshair as well. All my ACOGS have them.

Awesome optic but the eye relief was fucking horrible.

TA01NSN is what I used for my second tour in Iraq. My favorite ACOG.

I like it, and the BDC is accurate.

Its really a decent trade-off for the great FOV.  A TA-33 has a much better eye relief, but the FOV is no where near as good as a TA01 or TA31.  A TA11 offers a good middle ground between the two, excpet it is physically much larger than either.

At the last NRA rifle competition I attended, my TA01NSN kept me near the top in scoring in the CQB stage. Everyone expected it to be slow! Inside 15 is mostly muscle memory. With a little practice you can shoot pretty darn fast with these things. Eye relief is no problem once you train with it. It's a darn fine optic that continues to impress me. My tritium is getting a little dim after almost 15 years. That's the only negative thing I can think to say about it. Great optic, though I am biased.

I had buddies in other units say they didn't think an ACOG is a good choice for places like Iraq. But I always felt like I quickly pick up a target and shoot. Besides, it has iron sights on top for real close range fighting anyway.

Hear ya! People say that a lot. Then you hammer out failure drills on four targets at 7 yds just as fast as the guy with the Aimpoint, and confusion ensues. The ACOG really isn't that hard to shoot at CQB distances. To be honest though, I've never practiced much with the irons on top. They just don't seem necessary. Maybe some tier one guys use them, but for a Joe Shmoe like me they are redundant.

I have 2 also as they are the best quick ranging reticles, extremely precise if you choose to be, and lightening fast for coyote control.

I like the simplicity of crosshairs and BDC, I've looked through many other reticles but they seem a bit unnatural.  I've tried shooting with a Chevron, but I shoot for accuracy and find the TA01 to be my choice, and I wear contact lenses too.

At 50 yards, I can stay in a golf ball sized area - that may not be any great feat for some, but it is for me.  I feel that if I can hit that 1-1/2" size area consistently, then I can defend myself adequately if necessary - or make a cold shot count if ever required.

... have a fair number of platforms, and optics to suit

Nothing comes close to my ACOG TA01NSN atop my Colt AR-15

Period

Meh, I am a believer in using the front sight post as your aiming reference if it gets close anyway.

The BDC is one of the best thing about ACOGs.

Its a fast minute of man combat optic, not super precision.

I've been saying that for years, but was always told I was wrong.

Good optic like others have said. I don't care for the NSN model as the it glows an orange vs a red of the TAO-1. Aside from that, GTG. I have three ACOGs these days including a TAO-1.

I don't get why everyone hates the short eye relief.  It'd suck on a .300 Win Mag, but it's not like it's going to give you scope eye on a 5.56.

Because it is difficult to get a proper view through the optic unless your eye is in almost exactly the right place. The right place is a very narrow window. I like the optic but there are other ACOGs with much better eye relief that offer the same reticle if that is the reticle you want.

Everything they said, except for the one "hated it".

Love mine.

The eye relief is perfect if you shoot nose to charging handle like one should.  I wear contact lenses and they have never been an issue.  The TA01 kicks ass.
