1st offense.... $5,000 fine and 1-year suspension.
2nd offense.... death penalty. Actually, I'd like to see that sentencing protocol applied to a long list of felonies - white collar crimes included. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice.... Quoted: I got pulled in a customer's car for that. Stopped, searched, patted down, and given the riot act. Thought I was going to jail.Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: You yank their license, they drive anyway. This. Yeah, but that gives me a chance to randomly run their tags, observe them driving suspended, and stop them and give them another criminal citation. How the hell do I know the owner has trouble on him and why would I care? Pulling a car with legit papers because the tagged owner has a bad license is over the line. I can't do that anyway. My understanding is that if the driver is not the suspended person, the stop is over immediately, no questions, no search, no further contact. ETA: It started with the usual "do you know why I pulled you over?" (I was speeding, but he didn't see that) Moved to your license is suspended,(mine is fine) then get out of the car,(why?) then who's car is this,(customer's car) why are you driving it,(customer's car is broken. I fix) hands against the roof,(fuck this noise man, I'm at work) now behind your back, I'm searching the car(fuck you cop--bad move on my part) then his backup arrived and he cut me loose without another word. All the while, I'm in my company uniform, with a repair order and scantool in the car. Still to this day don't know exactly what happened.

We got that shit in Florida. Ruining too many innocent lives. Other states should follow suit. View Quote It may sound like a good idea, but they keep lowering the level where you're drunk, and people have to get to work and do other things n their lives. If you live in NYC, you may not need a car. If you live in other areas you essentially can't live w/o a vehicle. Revoking a license is too harsh and not likely to achieve the desired goal. |

One year revocation for first offense, permanent for second.

You have the right to travel, but not necessarily by car... Im fine proving competency to drive/know lawx regardin driving. I think there needs to be a 3-strikes type of system. First time, 6 month suspensio, second time, 1 yr, third time, lifetime ba. Being stupid should hurt. |

Charging people for DUI is just like gun laws.
Merely driving under the influence causes NO HARM to another. It's like laws against full auto, >10 round mags etc. I don't care what people possess, I care what damage they do. |

Not all of them were from a DUI but suspending/revoking a person's license does nothing. View Quote This. I check a boatload of IDs every day (liquor store). I see at least two or three a day of the "ID ONLY -- NOT A LICENSE TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE" photo IDs that TN issues to those with suspended/revoked licenses. Damn near all of them drive here. Worst case scenario, they get pulled over and fined more money (that they aren't gonna pay anyway). |
|
Revoking licenses won't keep them from driving. Now if states passed a law that says anyone who is accused of DUII gets the vehicle they were driving seized and held pending out come of the charge (REGARDLESS OF WHO OWNS IT) then people would be much more careful. Other folks wouldn't loan out their vehicles, and people wouldn't give car loans to anyone who had a prior duii. If someone passes a breath test, and the field sobriety test, they wouldn't even be charged.
If they are convicted, the vehicle, and everything in it, or attached to it automatically is forfeit to the state. Something like that would really frighten people into better (although not complete) compliance. Nothing else seems to work. |
