He was suspended.  Why was he allowed inside?  I went to a high school with metal detectors and 24/7 armed police presence.  How will your shooting rampage go if you can't get inside, can't bring in the gun and a cop standing in the cafeteria?

Of course shooter isn't "white" so he gets victim status. They will more than likely blame the white "bullies" for the incident.

A high school student in Washington state opened fire in a cafeteria at lunchtime, leaving one person dead and at least four injured before killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Eyewitnesses and law enforcement sources identified the shooter as Jaylen Fryberg, a freshman at Marysville Pilchuck High School. Marysville police administrative commander Robb Lamoureaux earlier declined to identify the suspect, but said he was a male student at the school.

He said the deceased victim was a female, but he did not say whether she was a student or staff member.

I had a high school with 200 students. My graduating class was 43. No metal detectors and and no SRO. This wasn't in some backwoods podunk town. The front doors opened right up to the cafeteria.

+1

"Head" can mean a lot of things.  The bullet can go through an eye at an angle creating a nasty wound but the bullet never actually penetrates the cranial vault.

Just saw a news update a few moments ago where the handgun supposedly came from the victims family/father.

There is an initiative on our local ballot that could really restrict a lot of the gun shows in our area related to private sales/transfers

I usually don't even have to sign in when going to my daughter's school for something, I just go the front office and they tell me where the room I'm looking for is...  No metal detectors, only one campus police officer...  Multiple sets of entrances to the building.

I was thinking the same thing until I did some research.

It's damned convenient, but the two polls I found had the anit-gun ballot initiative expecting to pass by either 60-40 or 72-28. It would have passed without this.

The gun may have been "purchased" legally but it wasn't legal for a minor to take that gun from the gun owners home and onto school property. Of course the MSM leaves out the details like that. The sheeple make the leap, at the urging of the media and politicians, that we need more laws to somehow prevent this when these types of murderers almost always violated numerous gun laws prior to pulling the trigger on their first victim.

Judging from the pictures on his Facebook page, he HAD been given that instruction.

The fact of the matter is, to be painfully blunt, the kid went pussy-crazy and shot some people. The only reason we're supposed to care is because he was a kid in a school.. if he was a 45-year-old alcoholic and did the same thing for the same reasons, it would just end up as an episode of Law and Order.

Bullshit.

I've had guns in my house for decades. My kids and grandkids know the deal. If they want to touch them, they ask and we touch. If they want to shoot them, they ask and we go shoot.Once they turn 13, I give them their own gun.

If you can't raise your kids right, you don't need guns, a car, property, or anything a free man is allowed.

You lock up your guns from the kids you don't have and preach to the rest of us about how to raise ours.

I agree with you a good bit here.  When I was a kid I knew were all the guns were and where the extra ammo was kept.  My 2 year old, upon seeing a gun or a picture of a gun will say "Dadda, gun, be careful."

Having said that, I don't think it made much difference in this case.  Kid knew all about it.  He just decided that some chick was worth dying over.  The only preventative measure would have been someone in his life reading what was going on and stepping in.

If you can't raise your kids right, you don't need guns, a car, property, or anything a free man is allowed.

You lock up your guns from the kids you don't have and preach to the rest of us about how to raise ours.

Yup, I was raised the same way. I knew where my dad kept his guns and if I wanted to check one out all I had to do was ask. They weren't a big deal. I don't have kids now, but if I do in the future, I may consider locking them, but the same will go for them, if they want to look just ask. I want them to respect guns, not fear them or worse, disrespect the responsibility that comes with them. This kid seems to have disrespected firearms.

Said it before and I will say it again. If it is not the gun you carry for ccw and you have kids, lock it the eff up. How hard is this to understand?

It's not, but kids are devious and tenacious. Simple measures like "lock it the eff up" aren't always 100% effective.

Or, you could teach kids how to handle, use, and respect guns from an early age and remove all the mystique and mis-directed fascination.
Seems to have worked OK for me, my siblings, my children, and everybody else's children I know that were raised the same way.

Exactly.  That's because guns and their availability are not the problem.

The problem is an intellectually and morally deteriorating population who have been raised with no sense of responsibility or accountability.

I only came here to add to the 30 pages we're going to get....

But yeah i wonder what gun laws the grabbers will hawk on that could have prevented this....Last I heard you can't legally buy a gun, from a person, a gun show, or online if your 14....

You 2 are literally at MPHS?

we live in the area.

So do I. I doubt that any of us local members are seeing anything that anyone else with cellular or Internet connectivity isn't. Certainly nothing that warrants telling someone to STFU because they took exception to a crass, improper comment regarding an incident where real families are experiencing real trauma.

Welcome to the internet.

Well I hope you two had easy drives home. While other people's kids are dead or hospitalized. It's all about priorities. Thanks for showing us where yours are.

Require all firearms to be locked and unloaded with requirements for ammo to be locked up separately.

Ban people who are domiciled with mental health patients from owning firearms.

This

Pretty much nailed it.

The odd thing is I was that weird kid in school that caught plenty of shit.  I was dorky, broke and unattractive.  I don't recall a single thought of "Hey, I should go shoot up the school."

Tulalip Tribe Chairman Herman Williams on Marysville, Wash., shootings: 'I am deeply saddened by the terrible tragedy in our local school district. ...Our community is reeling from this experience, so we ask that the media and the public honor the families and our children in this time of grief. Sadly, we are now experiencing what has become a national trend, which we, as a society, must address' - statement

Sounds like Chief Sitting Bullshit is about to jump on the national gun control bandwagon

Lets see how long until he shows up in a photo op with Giffords

I usually don't even have to sign in when going to my daughter's school for something, I just go the front office and they tell me where the room I'm looking for is...  No metal detectors, only one campus police officer...  Multiple sets of entrances to the building.

Do you consider that adequate security for your most valuable possession?  A movie theater has better security.

I'd hope that it doesn't to come down to my kids attending school being the equivalent of visiting to a maximum security prison.

On a long enough time time, bad things happen... and those things can't be solved by legislation.

We may never know if it was anti-depressants, or bullying, or just a weak character flaw - but the gun didn't cause the problem - the kid has to ultimately take responsibility for his actions.
