I put in the 23 watt bright white fluorescent bulbs.  They are supposed to be as bright as the older 100watt incandescent, but they just don't put out enough.

What would you use instead.

LED I use Cree soft whites. Cut my electric bill by about $20 another doing my whole house. Edited to add I replaced 3 60w incandescents with a single 60w class LED and it's brighter.

LED bulbs are much more accurate to the color of incandescent than CFLs.

WalMart now carries LED bulbs for good prices. Buy a smaller size and see what you think.

You may find your house full of them soon, as I did.

I replaced a compact florescent a month ago with an led...the led lasted 2 weeks, not 20 years or whatever  it said on the package... I'm sure the led is fine, but I bet the transformer / voltage regulator or other part is blown. Instead of a stupid piece of coiled wire that can break in a bulb, now we have a bunch of other crap that can go wrong... progress...lean forward...yes we can..etc

Cree LEDs are guaranteed for 10 years, buy a Cree next time.

I have about 40 Cree LEDs in my house and they all still work after almost 2 years.

Thanks!  I replaced all my incandescents with CFL but dreaded the possibility of dropping one and having my house bulldozed and salted as a hazmat danger...I'll be hitting WallyWorld this weekend!

What you do is stop buying florescent twirly shit bulbs and get yourself some 9 year lifespan, FBHO, I can afford an electricity bill, "rough use" incandescent bulbs that put out the correct amount of light...

I'd go with Cree 60w or 75w. The 100w are fantastic but they are $20 a pop

I picked up some 100watt replacement halogen bulbs, which are actually something like 73 watts.  Still incandescent.  I find them an excellent replacement.

I like the look and used QH in fixtures where you can see bulb. Last time I needed one couldn't find them.

Probably a 100 watt like you should've used in the first place?

I have a closet full of those because they were going to be banned.

They are worth it. The 100w LED bulbs are bright. Over 75% of my house is LED now.

I bought like $300 worth of light bulbs before they disappeared. I won't be using any stinking curly bulbs.

I went ahead and picked up some of these daylight cree led bulbs on ebay.  5 75 watts for $80 something shipped.

I stocked up on the old style bulbs years ago.
That being said, the LED's put out a very 'warm' light that is close to or as good as the old bulbs.
They just cost too much is all.

Still have a bunch of pre-ban incandescent bulbs.
The key is to get rough service designation and 130 volt, NOT 120 volt.
They last SO much longer.
