As the video cuts out, it looks like the perp either swung or threw the machete at the officer.  At which point I'd suspect they ventilated him

That gas station where the perp turned back off of Buckeye road has the best gas prices on the lower west side of Phoenix.

I used to fill up there every week when I lived on the west side. Bring you EDC pistola, it's not a nice neighborhood.

Man, that sucks.

Why would he turn broadside to an oncoming truck like that?

I hope he made it. That was brutal.

I'm surprised the cops didn't drop that asshole on his first bluff charge.

Police then shot the man. His family said he has died and identified him as Jeremy Bustos.

The officer involved in the crash was extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital. He is in serious condition but expected to recover.

Are fire systems common on patrol cars ? was that a stop gap measure after all the hoopla over the rear impact problems with crown vics ?

Too bad they couldn't do it while he was still in the cab of the truck.

Yep you will see some of the crown vics with a fire supression system sticker in the rear windows, and ballistic panels in the doors.

Hope the officer recovers fully. I was kinda surprised they didnt light up the truck when they realized the perp was still wanting to go.

Apparently they back off to wait for him to wear the rims down after they took out the tires, and he turned around to run down the officers. Good Shoot, nine more on welfare in AZ.

I am guessing the white stuff coming from under the police car is some kind of fire suppression system?

iirc it was because they used a plastic tank to save weight. I'm not sure if it was design flaw or just more CV get in the rear on the side of interstate.

The tank has no issues passing all of the rear impact testing . Most of the fire shave been high speed car stopped interstate hits .  I used to be a Ford fleet . I like the Crown Vic. it is a good car . If you look at that hit there is no fuel leakage in the video .

IDK if anyone from AZ popped in to give an update but suspect was shot/killed.  Suspect decided he wanted to run after 1 of those 4 officers with said machete.   Officer involved with the accident was upgraded to serious but stable condition.

EDIT:  forgot to mention, but of course 1 of the news stations (CBS 5) found a family member (niece) of dirt bag.  She said the normal crap. "he was a good man" "give you the shirt off his back"  ect ect.   Also it was a city of avondale work truck.  Driver of city truck was assaulted by suspect who stole the city truck.

EDIT 2:  I live not even 1/8 mile from this incident. it happened on 111th ave and i live on 112th ave.  The 3 helicopters (sheriffs, phx pd and dps*i think*) were over head.  then a yellow 1 (medivac). then the media's helos showed up. Got woken up by the helicopters flying pretty low.  The houses to the north *dirt lots in the video* is the "town" of Cashion.  population a few 100.  100% crap neighborhood.  the neighborhood to the south *brick wall and grass* is where im at and no real crime.  neighborhoods to the west and east are good areas as well.  Just wish someone would nuke that "town" from orbit.
