That's right, I asked, and in GD, no less.  I'd love to have a Baby Browning, or a Colt/Astra

Colt 1908 Vest Pocket Auto.

Because John Moses Browning, that's why.

The Baby Browning is a much better design than the Colt 1908 Vest Pocket
model. It's smaller and has no grip safety.

I prefer the Colt Junior. It is like the M2 .50 cal., an improved Browning.

Not my pic but Junior on right 1908 on left.

My first shooting call, 4 hours after my first day of field training, involved a 25acp.

Girlfriend shot her boyfriend with a Raven 25.

Bullet penetrated BF's cowboy boots, didn't penetrate his socks, and just left a bruise on his ankle.

BF declined to press charges, refused EMS, and hobbled away.

Either are good choices, along with the original James Bond gun, the Beretta 418. I just picked up a very nice French "Mikros" with an external hammer.

In no way do I consider them proper SD weapons, but I like a well-made small gun.

After asking this question, you know your are going to get much of that Jeff Cooper nonsense about making someone angry by shooting them with a .25. I've known people killed by a single shot from a .25, so it's not a joking matter.

I think the smaller pistol cartridges have gotten a bad reputation because of all the crappy pistols made through the years. Some of them have bores so oversized it is no wonder you used to hear stories like this about them all the time. Into the early 90s dealer cost on the little zinc pocket pistols was still under 40 bucks.

My old man's favorite .25 story was from a shooting call in his rookie days. Late night, shots fired, etc. He pulls up to the scene, gets out, and sees a guy sitting on the curb, head in his hands, sobbing and saying "the bitch done shot me..." Dad shines his maglite down on the guys to see his face and hands are covered in blood.

Turns out his girlfriend mag-dumped a .25 into his head; the bullets deflected off his skull and slid under his scalp.

My vote for worst would be FIE Titan.  I can't get more than 3 rounds thought it before it either jams or tries to disassemble itself.  I have a ton of different kinds of 25acp from all my attempts to find a cartridge that would make the dam pistol work, but no luck.  Now I'm trying to find a cheap, functioning 25 to shoot all this damn ammo.  I was going to pick up a derringer of some sort but Cobras left me highly unimpressed.  My hands are way too big for the Titan anyway, so I'm sure a derringer would be no better.

Will the Brownings fit in the hand of an adult male American or are they another one that is so small you have to hold it just right to prevent the slide from biting you?

Look at all the various types of .22LR cartridges made: supersonic, subsonic, match grade, etc.

What comes in .25 ACP? I've only seen ball, maybe softpoint.

Yep.   .25ACP out of a 2.5 in barrel will penetrate to potentially fatal levels in balistic gel.. .   All these internet stories about bouncing off of leather boots, fingernails, etc., are bullshit or oddballs.   9MM and 45ACP have  glanced off of skulls before depending on the angle, but the plural of anecdote is not data.

22LR out of that size barrel has about the same performance, but lower reliability due to rimfire priming.

25ACP is not a round I'd use for defense, but its not a fucking BB gun.    Its killed plenty of folks.

OP:   Seacamp.

I paid 400 bucks for my baby browning about two years ago.. Bought on the spot from the man that was selling it in line before the show.. He was showing it off to another potential guy as i was walking up,  i heard the man say ill give you 300 for it..  He laughed and said no 400 it is..  He said no thanks,  i asked to look at,  confimed it was a baby, said sold,  and handed him 400 bucks.. The other guy looked kinda mad and the dude who sold it to me stepped out of line and left the show...

agreed.   Might be stories about the .25 being worthless but it will mess up a bad guy.   I carried a .25 for years .   It had no trouble passing through bundles of grocery bags.   I used the bales as my back stops .  usually behind the businesses where I worked.

Yes. With the Baby Browning, it's a "middle finger only" hold on the grip, but it's actually not bad, due to the relief cut behind the trigger guard. I have had no problem with slide bite, and I have fairly beefy hands. Also, the safety on the Baby Browning is much easier to manipulate than on the Colt vest pocket. It's a classy little gun, which is better than being unarmed.

If you have the money, PSA makes some really beautiful Babies: Precision Small Arms Baby Browings

ETA: A good magazine is critical for proper functioning.
