Great acting from both Nick and Elizabeth. The soundtrack is also pretty good.

One of the few movies that portrays alcoholism and it's effects realistically. Take it from someone who had a ringside seat.

I found that movie extremely disturbing for its nihilism.
Nick Cage's character was the ultimate unsympathetic protagonist. And Elizabeth Shue's wasn't any better. Accurate portrayal of alcoholism but pretty gratuitous, IMO. Spending two hours watching a guy slowly kill himself out of self-pity wasn't my idea of fun. |

Even when I was drinking that movie made me uncomfortable because of it's likeness to my own behaviors, motivations and moral ambiguity. |

I think my cousin's father in law died of cirrhosis. Someone else's father died from that too but right now I can't remember who it is.
