Maybe I am biased by being from the 747's birthplace and its manufacturing program providing half of our household income, but this is the one commercial airplane that I always pause to watch when I see one flying above. Not quite sure what it is about it, but in my opinion it is an impressive, beautiful machine, even in the twilight of its manufacturing life. It's easy to appreciate why it was nicknamed the "Queen of the skies".

not to knock the 747, but i have to give the 707 the nod for pure airliner grace.

I've never had the pleasure of flying on one. None of the flights I've taken have been that long.

A classic airliner though, let's not forget this little contribution...

I grew up around them, my dad worked for Braniff and I remember getting to play in them when he was working on them,   this was long before the TSA saved us from all the terror

fat albert was always fun to go up in,  we always went up through the nose gear.

Speaking of...
I heard you like Seaplanes, so we put a Seaplane on your Seaplane so you can see seaplanes when you see planes.

Yup.

787 > 747

It is a neat plane and performs impressively for sure. I see them flying around all of the time, too. I wish it great success. But in my opinion, it doesn't have quite the same visual impact as the 747 does.

ETA: Don't forget that it is a fleet of modified 747s that helps to make the 787 possible.

Every time I walk up to a 747 all I think is "this thing actually flys?"  They are huge.

Yes I know it's not the biggest plane out there, but it's pretty big.

The Connie is a Princess among swine.

And while most will dismiss the idea of something new being elegant, the 787 is the best big airliner yet:

787 - still working out the bugs on this, game changer design, with all electric, no bleed air.
A380 - Meh.
747-400 - Mac Daddy
787-8 - Sweeeet
777 - Work horse

If we're ignoring deprecated models, I'm a big fan of the 773ER. Love those huge twin engines and the 6 wheeled gear. Just a cool looking plane.

One of my favorite airplanes

We were supposed to fly on a 747 for our honeymoon in Hawaii.  We had a nonstop flight from Atlanta to Honolulu.  I was so excited!  Then at the last minute stupid Delta airlines changes it to a freaking Airbus 330.  I was so pissed!
