Ha! Because of this thread, I just read he's going to be the musical guest on SNL this weekend November 1st (Chris Rock is hosting).
Check him out here singing and on the guitar performing "Fury" on SNL back in 2006. Too bad Prince has little appreciation for his music/performances being available online. This would be even better if available in the original HD... |

I came in from a night of hard partying and turned on MTV (back when they actually played music). I saw what looked like Jimi Hendrix. The music was absolutely SLAMMIN'!
But it didn't look quite right. Took me a while, but finally saw that it was Prince. A very young Prince, doing an homage to the Great Jimi. Anyone that can play a guitar that well is worth some props. Many people that wind up with more money than a human can possible use are subject to doing weird things with their lives. He coulda been a lot worse. |

The weirdness has kept him from being pulled into the money machine that is mainstream pop music. He's an artist and I have to respect what he's created even if sometimes it doesn't connect with me and my tastes. Getting a chance to see him live is on my bucket list.

Purple Rain is one of the greatest albums of all time. Prince is a fantastic songwriter (churns out hits for other folks too.) One of my all time favorite artists.

He might be a freaky little bastard but he has written over 100 #1 songs, many of which were performed by other artists and became very famous. He plays over 20 instruments and could probably pick up any instrument and be playing it well within a very short time.
I wouldn't necessarily hang out with the guy but only a fool would fail to recognize his incredible musical talent. |

Back in high school I played drums for a band called "Prints". We had some really good initial show turn outs just by word of mouth advertising, but we shortly fizzled out for some reason.

Talented, multi-instrumentalist, wrote some decent songs (if you like that kind of music), is prolific and moves well.
All that said, he's not a favorite of mine.
