It is really hard to compare QBs honestly. With different eras you have different advantages. Now the rules favor passers and receivers. However, back in the day there was no salary cap, meaning you could keep a better team together longer. Also, defensive players were smaller back then and the league was not so pass centric. A stud like Marino is going to stand out more when there fewer elite rivals. Go back far enough and roids were legal. Go back even farther and there are no black guys. How do you begin to factor in that? Also, what stat counts the most? QBR, TDs, Passing YRDs, Wins, Playoff Wins, Super Bowls Wins? View Quote All of those. I voted for Joe because of his winning record, but it would be interesting to see what Dan Marino could have done with a better supporting cast. I would say that he is absolutely the best QB to never win a Super Bowl. |

Montana has my vote for the best, but I'd put several of the old timers ahead of the more recent guys listed. Fran Tarkenton beats out Brees for a spot in the poll any day.

You think you're going to get a rationale response to this in GD? Look at the "manly things you don't like thread", nearly every post is "I hate sports". Ask who the best world of Warcraft player of all time is and it'll probably go 100 pages. Seriously a lot of freaks and geeks here. And homos.

Fail. You all fail.
Bradshaw has 4 rings. Obviously he is the best, yet not even on the poll. Who's the 13'er now dummies? |

When Joe Montana took the field , it was magic.
More importantly , he earned the respect of all. |

Montana is the Emmitt Smith of the QB's, without his star studded team, he wouldnt even be in the conversation.
I really like Manning, granted he's won one ring, but he's a damn good choke artist. |
|
Without a doubt, Peyton Manning.
Most touchdowns in a season. Most touchdowns in a career. 2013 Broncos scored more points than any team in NFL history. No contest. |
|
Voted Montana, but he was throwing to the best receiver ever and had the best supporting cast in history.

There are more than a few posters here that genuinely feel that Tony Romo should be on the list

Roger Staubach
"He attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he won a Heisman Trophy, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Staubach joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1969. He played with the club during five seasons in which they played in the Super Bowl, four as the primary starting quarterback. He led the Cowboys to victories in Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII. Staubach was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl VI, becoming the first of four players to win both the Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl MVP, along with Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen and Desmond Howard. He was named to the Pro Bowl six times during his 11-year NFL career." |

1. Joe Montana
2. Peyton Manning 3. Tom Brady Joe was always cool under pressure and that goes a long way, IMO. Also, who's to say his great supporting cast wasn't great because of him? It's a two way street. |

Peyton Manning. If Manning had Walsh or Belichick (and his video crew), this wouldn't be a discussion. Dungy,Caldwell, and Fox leaves much desired.

How the hell does Steve ko'ed Young get in the poll without Elway?

Staubach #1
Favre #2 No one else is close, the guy never had anyone elite around him aside from Sterling Sharpe for a short time, he simply elevated everyone around him, he was asked to carry what was always a mediocre team, the Packers would have never been winners without him, take away Rodgers you still have a competitive team, he's not elite. The back up Flynn that wasn't good enough to make a NFL ROSTER on any other team puts up bigger numbers than him. |

Steve Young was a great quarterback, not like he was some shrub they threw in there!
He dethroned Montana and then Montana went to KC and took a hapless team to the playoffs. |

To litterly plug another guy in, even as good as the replacement is, does indicate that there was a solid supporting cast present And manning has recovered from massive surgeries and taken the broncos to super bowl in 2 years. |

Here we go.
No way you can compare the different generations with all the rule changes today that are pro offense and limit the defense. Are we talking best of all time due to stats? The quarterbacks of the last few years are putting up video game like numbers. What a joke. Or are we tasking championships? Then hands down its Otto Graham. He's not even listed on your poll. Poll fail. Aaron Rodgers listed. Not Brett Favre? |
