The transition to grey MREs was during the first deployment to Bosnia. They were all brown up until then, and I never saw one in brown after I came home.
Think of it as a chunk of canned ham. It ain'thalf bad. Post good pics if you dare to open the thing. I'mdying to see what it looks like adter all these years. |

I remember eating MREs of that vintage with my Dad and Grandpa during hunting season. Good memories! To a twelve year old, they were one of the coolest things ever. I loved the styrofoam fruit! Chicken ala King was one of my favorites.
Miss you Gramps. |

Pork Patty for the win..
I had one one fine evening in 1984.. I soaked it in water and folded it up and placed it in the ammo tray in the Cupola of my tank. I was going to eat it while on radio watch... I forgot about it till morning,,, I pulled it out, dumped out the water and took a bite... the fucker was still hard as a rock... it was one of the first 12 MRE menu's... from 82 till the ditched it in 87 or around that time... all the Dehydrated stuff was disliked and they pulled it.. I bet it has the dehydrated Ketchup pack on the Accessories pack... |

Quoted: Good. That's time enough to compose a good dinner pic. You've already got at least 5 or 10 points in the bag just for originality and quality of food. And you're a girl so that's at least 2 "because she's a girl" points. If you've got a pink girl gun that's at least 1 more point. As a side thing, you should issue the MRE cracker challenge and video the results. Bet anyone you want $20 that they can't eat both crackers in 2 minutes without water. That will be the safest $20 you ever bet. I never once met the man who could complete the task. Boy, seeing that MRE meal brought back some memories.
I have choked down some Pork Patties in my time......they weren't THAT bad. |

Meh. I found a baggy of cocaine and I'm not law enforcement.

I remember eating that exact meal many times. Mostly in Infantry Training School in '86. For the next 15 months, I only had 3 MRE's total I guess. By the time I got back stateside to the Fleet, we were getting new ones.
I still miss the old ones. ' |

At least eat the maple nut cake OP. That stuff was awesome. |

We used to buy old c-rations from the Army surplus stores in the 80's. Would this be any worse?
