My wife and I have been together since she was a senior in HS and I was a freshman in undergrad. Coming up on 15 years now. In a few weeks it'll be our 5th wedding anniversary. We've got an amazing son that we both love to death but paying for his daycare is like funding a little drug addict. So there's no way I can see us having any more kids short of winning the lottery.
Now I won't get into her issues but after looking at all the advances in modern science to control things on her end, she refuses to. So now I'm considering taking one for the team and taking charge of the issue on my end. But to be honest, other than talking to a buddy about it at my last job...who told me he was sore for a week or so...and knowing they disconnect the plumbing...I know very little about it. Any info would be great, but there are a few things I'm curious about... First off, does insurance usually cover it? (We have the absolute best insurance I've ever seen!!...$10 copays on all visits and rx). If not, what's something like that go for out of pocket? What's the recovery process actually like? Do you pretty much lay in bed for a week or can you walk the next day and the guy I work with was just a pussy? Any down-sides to it functionally speaking? What else is there to know? Thanks! -Emt1581 |

I am going to get snipped myself, I think you should just do it also. In my case, I might as well be a gorilla getting castrated in regards to the Japanese system, .

You'll walk out when done, but I recommend taking it easy and having a bag of frozen peas handy. Any down-sides to it functionally speaking? Nope. Same juice, no seed. What else is there to know? There is a possibility of complications. I had some issues and going to a academy ten days after the procedure was a bad idea, but I survived. I would recommend getting a valium from the Dr. that you can take before the procedure. Thanks! -Emt1581 View Quote |

Best thing I ever did. 1 day to recover. Walked in got cut, tied, and cauterized walked out and went home. Felt like you took a shot to the balls durring a soccer game. But a bag of cold peas on your nuts and you'll be fine in 24 hours. Some bruising, no major swelling like I've heard of horror stories. No pain, just a little discomfort for a couple days. You still nut like always,(ejaculate), it's the sperm that doesn't go anymore. You may even see an increase in ejaculate after snipping compared to prior getting snipped. I did. They say could take 6 months for the sperm to be out of your system.

Best decision ever. Needleless and scalpeless for the win. The wife watching two hot chicks shave my balls was entertaining.

I did it 9 years ago.
Best thing I ever did. Turned my wife into a sex machine. The insurance we had at the time covered it. $20 co-pay FTMFW. Cheaper than a carton of condoms. I recovered in about 3 days. Ice your balls for the first day or two or else... |
|
[#10]
I paid nothing. $0.00. My copay for the Percocet (or whatever it was) was $10 but I never took one.
It is not a pleasant experience and you absolutely HAVE to follow the post-op instructions or you'll have two purple softballs in your shorts. I have a desk job, so going back to work wasn't a big deal. Get a ride home from the event. Hope the person isn't an asshole and extorts money from you with the threat of a bumpy road. Ice pack, Advil and a shitload of TV. It's a great time to catch up on your favorite shows. I did all of "The Pacific." Two of the most popular times are the Friday before the NFL Divisional Playoff Round and before the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Those will be taken well in advance. Totally worth it, though. No rubbers, no missed pills, no hormones. I recommend it for those done with making babies but still want to practice. |

They are reabsorbed into your system. After the procedure you jizz as usual, just there aren't any "riders on the bus." The tube that allows your swimmers to mix into your jizz is cut and tied off. Only about 5% of your jizz is actually sperm. The other part is ejaculate fluid. |

Wife drove me to the clinic, I popped a Valium (yum) and next thing I know I'm relaxed getting scrubbed down by the hottest woman to EVER touch my junk. It was really difficult to keep Mr. Happy under control for that part. The the Dr. came in, numbed up the package, made a few snips, cauterized the ends and I walked out. Don't make the mistake I made and try and walk around that day. Stock up on frozen peas and booze, go home and relax. One of the best things I've ever done. |

When I did go to the pharmacy at the local grocery store to pick up the pain meds, I put the bag of frozen peas on the counter, and the girls behind the counter (who I know well enough to laugh with) both laughed and said, "I take it those peas aren't for dinner?" |

I got it done when I was 24. I had to take about 3 days off and when I went back to work I was on restricted duty. I was told no sex for about two weeks, IIRC. We only waited about 6 days and it hurt so we had to stop.

When they offer you that valium to ease your thoughts, take it.
The doctor complemented me on a nice shave of the pubes, but then said I missed just a bit and dry shaved me some, that was the worst part at the doctors office. The worst part at home, Mrs. Kubota kept offering herself up to me as I was packing my manhood on frozen peas. |

Smartest thing I ever did! I didn't have any kids and I knew I didn't ever want them so the decision was a no-brainer... I had my vasectomy done back in the 80's when I was in my early 20's, it was a Friday afternoon appointment, I spend Saturday and Sunday with ice on my balls munching pizza and watching movies, Monday morning I was good to go, there was some mild pain for the next couple of days but nothing serious...
OP, there were no downsides after the procedure and truth be told, removing that 'worry' from my life has been great, I have no regrets. I didn't have insurance at the time so I paid out of pocket, best $500 I ever spent... these days you probably can't get the doctor to look at your balls for that price! edited for typo... |

not a big deal (sore for 2 days after the snip). Was back to normal routines a week later. Rotated a couple bags of peas out to ice dwon the boys the day of the surgery and after.
Insurance covered everything for me. Plan it for March madness and enjoy a couple days off watching basketball. |

[#38]
Had it done in the late '90s. 5 min operation and I only used a local. I walked around with boxers on, a bog of frozen peas against my balls and a pair of jockey shorts holding it all together for two days. After that I was fine but probably "knew" that I had my ball cut for about 6 months afterwards.
Funny story....I had my done at 30,000' by one of the surgical teams at Bragg. Every so often they have to rehearse in-air surgery and I scheduled my vasectomy as one of their patients. Get it done on a Friday. By Monday you should be GTG. |
|
[#39]
My insurance covered the entire procedure; all I paid was my co-pay. Like others I had mine done on a Friday, took it easy for the weekend, and was mostly back to normal on Monday. You really do need to take it easy for a few days, though, if you don't you'll regret it. Use it as an excuse to catch up on some movies or TV shows you've been wanting to watch, or read some new books, or binge-play Diablo 3... wait, nevermind there.
The procedure itself was quick and mostly painless. I drove myself there and home. |

It was 400$ paid upfront. My insurance would not pay or it. I was walking around that day - in fact after the procedure we went to hooters for my sons annual birthday trip.
Just take it easy for a few days - limit activity, sitting at a desk is no prob. |

If continuing your family line is of the utmost importance I'd say to freeze some of your little swimmers for an unforseen event. Should your son preceed you in death, or turn up gay like mine did, you have some in reserve.
But, if you can deal with that issue (pardon the pun) don't worry about it. Literally...it takes all the worry out of it. The Wife doesn't have to go through all the problems that women will have to deal with, and you don't have to worry about man things any more. Sore for a week, some good drugs for a little while, and an excuse to sit in the easy chair with an ice pack on your crotch and watch sports with nobody bothering you. |
|
[#47]
Just did it a few weeks ago.
Everyone will tell you to take it easy for a few days. LISTEN TO THEM. For the first week, if I didn't have a combination of drugs and a bag of frozen peas working for me, it felt like I had just been kicked in the balls. HARD. However, when I secured the couch and relaxed while chilling the jewels, I did great. Doc said some people do better, some do worse, and I was just unlucky enough to be on the worse side. I say plan for the worse, and plan for 5 days of not doing much. Insurance varies. Talk to your insurance company. I have a high deductible plan, it cost me $800 out of my HSA. Everything is functioning very well. Follow-up to confirm sperm count = 0 is coming up. No downsides for me at this point. |
|
[#48]
Some pain for a few days after. Get a pain script even if you don't need it. Not having to worry is priceless.
Now for the real advise: But TWO "athletic supporters". One for when you are wet (showers, no baths), one for when you are dry. Your balls still sag, but the leashes are shorter. This is only when you are healing. |

Had it done about age 24, once I was sure I wanted no children(and I still don't). I took a week off work due to my profession involving standing all day. I had frozen peas in the freezer ready to go, as was food for the next few days. I took it easy for a week, healed up and once the doc said "all clear!", it has been a great time with women once they tested out clear.
Just be sure you do not want more children. The reversal is expensive, painful and has a low rate of success, so do not hurry to get it done, think it through. |
