I actually bid on that thing. I wanted the top end but the guy was way too proud of it with the reserve price.

The MOST UNFORGIVABLE thing I have seen done would have to be the banning and confiscation of firearms.    And on a lesser scale, those damn revolvers with barrels twisted by some hippie so-called-artist and displayed as art.

hands on seen?

-mosin m44; bolt handle cut off with one of those no leverage scope ready screwed on handles for replacement, combined with cheesy scope mount screwed to receiver, stock received a good sanding with a duplicate of the guy's tattoos on the stock....all covered in super gloss marine spar finnish.

sad- K98 with Z41 sniper scope mount.... sporterized; cut down stock with scratched up plexiglas inlayed in the forearm, lterally looks like they took the plexi from the storm door that the dog scratched to hell.  The handgaurd retaining ring was ground off of the z41 mount.  The action bolts were brazed in place.   It was matching IIRC.  It had been abandoned at the gunshop I frequented for years by an old gent.  I inquired about acquiring it until I figured out the handguard retainer was ground off.  meh, the z41 scope was too small anyhow.

parker hale exposed hammer double shotgun, cut down to 10" and the stock cut off.  Not SBS'd legally, went into the police evidence room.

Krag carbine with the previous owner's initials carved into the butt stock,.... 3-4" tall letters and about a quarter inch deep.

Neglect.

6" 1970's blued python.  Shot and left to sit in a box and rust.  Buddy's dad owns it and I've shot it twice.  Practically begged him to let me clean and oil it before storage the last time.  "Naw, just chunk it in the rug".  Surface rust has turned into pitting.

2 minutes with an oily rag and it could've been saved.

Not so much unforgivable since it was just a Mini-14, but a saw one brought into the LGS that had a scope mounted about 8' over the action. Bubba had added a light and laser to the front of the rifle and ran the cords through the stock so the pressure switches were near the trigger guard. Probably the most bubba'd rifle I have ever seen.

Mentioned this last night.

I used to own a Finnish Mosin M28 that a previous owner:

- Turned the bolt handle.
- Inlet the stock
- Drilled and Tapped the receiver
- MILLED OFF the rear sight base
- Removed front sight
- Mounted a Tasco 3-9X40

Surely this qualifies.

I sold the gun to a man who was determined to save it.  I don't know that he could.

I've owned several guns like this.

I usually remove the buttplate of any longarms I own, and put a card in their with my name, address, date of purchase, and purchase price. I figure that worst case, one will turn up on Arfcom in 50 years :)

What'd they want for it?  Looks like a good candidate for an ATOM slide and a threaded barrel, if the price was right.

Pre Civil war Colt Revolving rifle . It started life as a blackpowder rifle . someone bored it to 20 gauge and I assume it took black powder shells They also cut down the barrel to about 16-18 inches . It is in a pawn shop and the guy is convinced it is worth $20,000 because he saw where a revolving rifle sold for that .

Hell, if I find one that's just SUPER bubba'd up, I might put in the paperwork and make an Obrez out of it.

There was a period of time where that seemed to be the standard. Late 60's, early 70's it seems. DL #'s were also quite common.

When I was a kid, I balance a turtle on the tip of my shotgun barrel while holding it pointing straight up.
Then I pulled the trigger, which evaporated the turtle, bulged the barrel, and put turtle splinters in my neck.

I sold a buddy of mine a 98% in the box complete paperwork 1962 colt cobra.. Mint gun, i mean beautiful..  He takes it out to shoot it without me,  and for some reason,  the barrel twisted when he would shoot it.  Channel locks against bare bluing to straighten it every few shots..   i saw it a few months later after all this and that was his answer..  Even showed me..
