Well its shorter now. I will post pictures tomorrow after school when can I take them in some better light conditions so you can get a good look at my epic skill in Dremel barrel machining. Too bad I will not be able to use a suppressor with it now but hey its now a better length. I think it looks as good as if it had been done on a lathe. BTW now it looks just like the gun Robert De Niro used. View Quote You don't have a flash? Or a lightbulb? Or even a flashlight? Ok, officially in before the pending dissapointment. |

I bet it looks nasty as fuck. Just admit, take your shame a learn.

If you throw it down the driveway, it should get a "battle-worn" look

Well why use a real dremel tool when Harbor Freight sells a cheap knockoff. Use a 20% off coupon and get a free something to boot!

I personally would use a chopsaw. Clamp it in, squeeze the saw trigger and chop, just like cutting a pipe at work. Maybe employ a vari-bit to recrown.
If you end up dissatisfied with it, and your buddies make fun of it, you could pass the blame and claim it to be a Century build. Seems plausible. |

I voted with the majority but would have also cast a vote for the think shatters and pieces end up embedded in your face.

To smooth the cut, wire the barrel to your vehicle's bumper with the cut end just touching the ground. Do a few laps around the neighborhood. Perfect finish guaranteed. And no need to blue it, just Sharpie the shiny bits.

No pipe or tubing cutters here and too lazy to go get one. Considered using a Sharpie to draw a line to follow but I think I'm good enough to free hand it. http://bradleyjacobs.com/carputer1/dremel-wheel.JPG View Quote At first I thought you might be serious. It's a shotgun, not a Palma rifle.
I took a ragged old 870 to a reputable gunsmith to have him shorten the barrel. He chucked everything up nice in the lathe, got a good cut started - then took it out of the lathe, finished the cut with a hacksaw and smoothed the muzzle with a hand held grinding ball. |

Just score the barrel with the Dremel. Once you score the barrel it should just snap off if you bend it a little bit.
Also don't be afraid to bend it back and forth if it doesn't snap on the first bend. 4150 is some tough steel, it can take the abuse.

So how soon after this disaster will the OP be buying a new barrel and than be kicking himself for not spending the money to have a
gunsmith do it. |

Nice! Technically that was part of the barrel. It looks like they really thought that setup out pretty well. It makes it easy to convert to an SBR once the stamp clears. Is the inside of the flash hider threaded for a blank adapter? I have the Sig 556 version so it has an AR type flash hider.

$200 to go from a 16 to a 14.5?
this thread was a complete waste of time

Nice, OP!
I love the Sig rifles but only own a 556R now. I want what you have - what is it, and how do I get one? |

OP could teach a class on how to give blue balls.
This was a gigantic letdown. Nice gun, I guess, but we really wanted a shitshow... |

thats pretty neat, ive never seen an extender like that before. IBanother page of "do it" comments

fixed barrel extension. NOT the barrel.
OP tricked us! Nice rifle though. |

Heck, use an ironworker - quick quick! Then swipe a sharpie from the office and presto-don-oh!
