ALET ALET! Lady is crazy and wants to go to Rockafeller Center (NYC) right now. How bad are the riots "protests"? Looking at the earlier streams, there were major crowds of communists and other morons walking throughout NYC blocking traffic. If you are going, take a train. I would not drive into the city today, you will be stuck for hours. You were right. NYC was a giant clusterfuck last night. I was pretty pissed about having to go but hey; happy wife, happy life. The problems started even before we got into the city... We took the train to Hoboken so we could take the Path in. NOPE! Path was down due to signal problems. We had to stand in a quarter mile long line for a bus to go into the city from there, but luckily they honored our Path tickets. Interesting crowd there, you could tell many were headed in to protest due to their rolled up signs. We made it to Rockafeller but had to walk 20 blocks and we couldn't get that close to the tree because of barricades and crowds. All the streets were packed with cars barely moving. We didn't run into any protests but there was this one incident where a young african american girl was yelling at a white cop because he looked at her wrong or something. It was pretty uncomfortable and full of derp. I got the vibe that the majority of people there were sick of all this protest and anti-police crap. |

TN state law prohibits carrying a rifle for the purpose of going armed. Srsly? The same TN that passed a Firearms Freedom Act? Yep. Until earlier this year (I think it was July), the only way you could legally have a rifle and loaded magazine in your car (no loaded chamber), was to have a handgun carry permit. Now, anybody that can legally own a gun, can have a loaded firearm in their vehicle (the empty chamber requirement was also deleted from the law). Carrying it outside the vehicle ("for the purpose of going armed") requires a carry permit, and the carry permit only applies to handguns. Fixing Tennessee's gun laws, is still an ongoing process. I don't expect rifle carry to be legal in TN, until after Open Carry Texas is a faint memory. They give anti's an easy target to point their fingers at. Pull an Open Carry event in Tennessee with rifles, and you will draw the attention of the police. If you have ammo for the rifle on you, expect to be dealing with the legal system. Want to open carry a handgun? Fine, just get a carry permit and don't be an ass about how you do it. But people don't seem to notice, around here, so the OCT crowd wouldn't get the attention they apparently seek. Made the anti's look like idiots, when they tried to claim the OCT crowd could walk around (in Tennessee) in Kroger with rifles, and nothing could be done to stop them. |

Gen Smiths usually show up at local shops as police trade-ins. Some may look worn on the outside, but mint on the inside. I have a CS9 and 5904 with the square trigger guard. My 5904 has some holster wear, probably from being a LE side arm. When I first brought it home there were lint balls falling out of the magazines and there was so much caked up gunk inside the gun itself I figured it never had a detail clean in it's life. After a complete tear down and severe cleaning, all of the parts look brand new with little to no wear. Carried a lot and shot a little defines it perfectly. S&W still supports the 3rd. Good carry piece? (referring to 5904) Does it use standard model 59 mags? Yes. Same mags as the 5906 as well. Many of these model numbers are the same gun, but one is stainless or stainless/aluminum frame and blued or blued/aluminum frame. They get confusing unless you have a lot of the 3rd. Gens or you look them up enough times. Good carry piece, well that depends. It's a full size service pistol with a double stack magazine. I personally couldn't lug something like that IWB every day, but some can. The aluminum framed models are surprisingly light. 5904 http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/b/b5/S%26W5904LateModel.jpg/350px-S%26W5904LateModel.jpg The 5903 is the same gun, but in stainless. A lot of the 3rd. Gens share parts as well. My CS9 and 5904 share a few parts and they're in two different categories. ETA: Later models came with different sights, some have square trigger guards and some have rails (TSW). Best thing is to look here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/155346-s-w-3rd-gen-model-list.html Look up posts or ask questions on that forum. Lots of very experienced S&W auto guys on there. Good info, thanks. These things are selling for ~ $275-300 in good used condition is why I ask. I don't really need another service auto, but at those prices I like to stock up for a rainy day. Sorry for Off topic. |

Students offended by Ferguson question, UCLA professor grovels like a little bitch.
A UCLA law professor apologized to students after some of them took offense to him including a question about Ferguson in his exam this week. Here’s the full question on the exam from Professor Robert Goldstein, as reported in school newspaper The Daily Bruin:
CNN News reported: On Nov. 24, St. Louis County prosecuting attorney Robert McCulloch announced in a publicized press conference that Police Officer Darren Wilson (who has since resigned) would not be indicted in the August 9 shooting of Michael Brown. Michael Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, was with hundreds of protesters assembled outside the police station, listening on loudspeakers and car radios when they learned Officer Wilson was not being charged. Standing on the hood of a car, Mr. Head embraced Michael Brown’s mother. Mr. Head asked someone for a bullhorn but it was not passed to him. He turned to the crowd, stomped on the hood and shouted, repeatedly, “Burn this bitch down!”
Police Chief Tom Jackson told Fox “News,” “We are pursuing those comments … We can’t let Ferguson and the community die [as a result of the riots and fires following McCulloch’s announcement]. Everyone who is responsible for taking away people’s property, their livelihoods, their jobs, their businesses — every single one of them needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” County Attorney Robert McCulloch asks lawyers in his office whether to seek an indictment against Head by relying on a statute forbidding breach of the peace and another prohibiting rioting (six or more persons assembling to violate laws with violence). A recent hire in the office, you are asked to write a memo discussing the relevant 1st Amendment issues in such a prosecution. Write the memo. View Quote And as the Bruin writes, some students “found it difficult to write about the incident in terms of the first amendment while ignoring issues such as police brutality.” One student said, “These kinds of questions create a hostile learning environment for students of color, especially black students who are already disadvantaged by the institution.” Goldstein ended up apologizing to students, writing that questions like these “create a hostile learning environment for students of color” and that invoking current events in this way makes things “too raw to be an opportunity for many of you to demonstrate what you have learned in this class this year.” View Quote http://www.mediaite.com/online/ucla-professor-apologizes-to-students-offended-by-ferguson-exam-question/ |

I did try to just stay there in Hoboken after we got stranded, but she was determined to see the tree and didn't want the protesters to ruin the yearly tradition. |

You need to educate her before "happy wife, happy life" causes one or both of you problems. Have her read some of the threads here--particularly this thread and http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1285487_Street_robberies_and_you___The_Basics.html and the ongoing one about cops feeling thrown under the bus where a bunch of cops on have said they're just pretending to go through the motions on patrol. Maybe also have her read Ferfal's book. If one of you has a life view based on fantasy and one doesn't that's a road to problems. |

I'm sorry but your state pretty much sucks at oppressing black people.
