Hi everyone!
Sorry it's been awhile. I've done a lot of research and finally found one. Since he is a smith and Wesson fan I got him model SW1911TA e series. It was a little bit pricy but I think he's going to love it. His name is Edward and it has an e already in the hand grip. now it's just a wait game until he pops the question. While I wait I guess I just get to think of a Christmas gift! |

Hi everyone, My boyfriend is going to propose to me sometime between November and the end of January. I'm very excited because we've talked about this for awhile now. I also think it sucks that I get a ring and he doesn't get anything. So I have decided that I was going to buy him a gun and give it to him after he proposes to me. He's a simple man that doesn't like a lot of flash and color. He is also a 1911 guy and will always be one, so please no trying to get me to change the gun. I don't know very much about guns or which one would be better or if i could get something in a different color, so please help! I already have talked to our gun store about getting one just need help!!! Any help with which 1911 you would recommend and why? If there is a different type of sight you would use? any other advice or just good old help would be appreciated! I have owned a ton of 1911s. They do not always work, regardless of what you spend on them. A full size Springfield is my suggestion. The TRP may be over your budget, but a Loaded or Range Officer would fill the bill. Springfields seem to have fewer problems than most. Smaller lighter versions from anybody are more likely to have issues. There are other good choices, but if you don't know 1911s, it is easy to make a mistake. I am surprised that everyone has not warned you that just because someone is standing behind the counter of a gun store, does not mean that they know squat about guns. Best wishes in advance. Raise lots of little shooters with this guy. Post wedding pics.

Post update!
Went to gun store because they got the gun in! It looked great!!!!! My next step is looking for a case. Little story behind why is because I do not like those blue boxes that it comes with. Lol when I got my 40 compact and it came with the blue case I tried to paint it pink. so if there is any suggestions on where I can find a nice case that I can present it to him with, that would be awesome! |

Not going to read all 5 pages and if this has not been recommended yet we've failed,
Save up a little more and get a Dan Wesson Valor or V-Bob, or for slightly less the DW Specialist. Arguably the best bang for your buck in 1911's. Instant classics |

Big enough for 4 1911 size pistols, or one and a lot of mags. Instead of "egg crate" foam it came with pluck to fit on the top layer with egg crate on the bottom. Gives the option to use it as a "fitted" case or a nice universal. IIRC it was $50 at Walmart 10 years ago and has held up well through a lot of use. You'd be hard pressed to do better for a truly practical case and reasonable price. |

My wife did this very same thing for me!
She bought me a stainless Springfield 1911, and I love it! It has about 9,000 rounds through it now... Stainless Springfields Loaded or Mil-Spec model are good guns for the money. Or the range officer model, but that limits sight options. Another is STI spartan.

Just keep in mind for your budget, CA tax is pretty damn high + $25 DROS. If you plan to buy the gun first then PPT it to him (assuming you have a HSC), that's another $35 thanks to the state's communist laws. So your OTD price is probably going to be the base price of the gun + $70-100+, depending on what you get.
If you buy online and have it transferred to a dealer, you still pay tax and their transfer fee (it's pretty bad, even a $50 transfer excluding DROS is considered cheap in CA). So transferring is generally a bad idea in this state (thanks to the communist BOE), unless you are getting a gun at a significant discount. Some dealers may still be doing single shot exemptions for off-roster handguns. Edit, didn't notice this had been long concluded. Anyhow, just a heads up to people outside California - transferring guns bought online here still gets you stiffed by tax, and the ripoff transfer fees from most FFLs. Until the end of the year, you can still buy off-roster handguns using the single shot exemption. Look it up on calguns if you're curious as to how that works. |

A Sig Saur TAC PAC has a 1911, 2 magazines, a holster and a speed loader for under $1000. I absolutely love mine.
