What's been fun so far, is teaching girls to use the jig saw. I had one girl tell me she couldn't because she was a "girly-girl". I hate it when people limit themselves because of what they think they are supposed to be able to do, but nothing else.
She did great, and you could see the pride in her smile when she finished. So far, we've had five different girls, who've never run a power tool, use the jig saw on this project. All of them couldn't wait to go tell their family or friends what they did. Something so simple to do, but they thought they couldn't do it because they were girls.

This is what our dragon statue used to look like in front of our basketball arena (cover is open, why it looks like a sample of the scale pattern on the leg):
This is what replaced it   I refuse to show the rest of Puff the magic dragon

We will not need any help from the wood shop . That was taken into consideration before we picked a topic. We will need some welding, but that teacher works well with me on these things. He's a big help.

As a former HS teacher, I know the juggling you must do behind the scenes to make something this detailed, and involving so many students, happen ... while balancing the workload among teens.

you mentioned only having one jigsaw-I have a spare I'd be more than willing to send out if you want it.
Of course, it would also mean double the safety hazards among people who might be new to using such tools. |

Not dragon related, but some of you will remember the Native American horse bow some students made last year.
Well, since we didn't have to worry about breaking this one before it got to its owner, we HAD to try it out today. The young man was pretty apprehensive about pulling back on this very much, and this isn't even the real string.. Got to love our background music one student played from his phone for us. 
He shot this three times. We will have to do more testing later.
