What's been fun so far, is teaching girls to use the jig saw. I had one girl tell me she couldn't because she was a "girly-girl". I hate it when people limit themselves because of what they think they are supposed to be able to do, but nothing else.
She did great, and you could see the pride in her smile when she finished. So far, we've had five different girls, who've never run a power tool, use the jig saw on this project. All of them couldn't wait to go tell their family or friends what they did. Something so simple to do, but they thought they couldn't do it because they were girls. |

It wasn't there very long was it? They put it in after I graduated. They should have replaced it with the one over by the BEC! I think insurance would have a cow with that one though, too may sharp points! |

We will not need any help from the wood shop. That was taken into consideration before we picked a topic. We will need some welding, but that teacher works well with me on these things. He's a big help. |

As a former HS teacher, I know the juggling you must do behind the scenes to make something this detailed, and involving so many students, happen ... while balancing the workload among teens.
Kudos. TRG |

Awesome updates. Why couldn't I have had a teacher like you in high school? Probably would have showed up more.

Update 10/10
The lower jaw design was finished today. They are working on cutting out mirror images of it right now. IMG_20141010_115121_627 by guns762, on Flickr" /> Here is the upper dorsal part of the skull, all cut out. IMG_20141010_115212_817 by guns762, on Flickr" /> and a bonus picture today First deer of the year is coming together for a student. He's still got a long way to go, but it's looking good so far IMG_20141010_115409_314 by guns762, on Flickr" /> |

Update 10/15
Slowly getting the parts of the head laid out and cut out. We still aren't sure how these will all fit together, but that's half the fun of problem solving this project. IMG_20141015_091746_452 by guns762, on Flickr" /> IMG_20141015_091718_972 by guns762, on Flickr" /> |

you mentioned only having one jigsaw-I have a spare I'd be more than willing to send out if you want it.
Of course, it would also mean double the safety hazards among people who might be new to using such tools. |

Update 10/20
We attached the two lower jaw pieces together. They look good. Now we have to work on getting the last upper piece cut out and assemble them. The upper is not attached, just resting up against the lower IMG_20141020_102425_126 by guns762, on Flickr" /> |

Not dragon related, but some of you will remember the Native American horse bow some students made last year. Well, since we didn't have to worry about breaking this one before it got to its owner, we HAD to try it out today. The young man was pretty apprehensive about pulling back on this very much, and this isn't even the real string.. Got to love our background music one student played from his phone for us. He shot this three times. We will have to do more testing later. http://youtu.be/sNzzyh5qpco View Quote Video is set as private. |
