At police firearms training facilities I've been to, anytime there is live fire, everyone is wearing body armor.

Sure a lack of details in that article.
Training facility. Live fire or dummies. What check procedures? Could non-lethal (those special modified firearms that shoot only the expensive paintballs that are loaded into the metallic cartridge) been used instead. Details are absent. I also wonder if it's a failure in procedure. Some range officer isn't going to be a range officer much longer. |

Tragic, I have spent a lot of time at that facility and can say that it is very well run and safety has always been paramount. Something clearly went very wrong, can't speculate on the details until the facts are out but I would expect someone to be losing their job and facing criminal / civil penalties. Prayers to the trooper and his family.

The entire Dept. is in the middle of Transition training right now. We are going from our Glock 21s to Sig P227s. I don't go in today until 1400hrs so I haven't got any details yet.

There is no rifle qual. going on right now and body armor is optional during this training. I always where mine as an instuctor but you can't tell these guys. I've always said that I'm more likely to get shot as an instuctor on the range rather than out on the road. This sounds like the FI shot the Tpr.
