About $15K a year, mostly to send illegal kids to school

And to pay the retirement checks of teachers who used to indoctrinate those illegals about how bad America is.

I want my money back.

In Colorado I pay $1/acre for my farmland. In Florida I was paying $9000 for my last house on 5 acres. Now about $1500 for my house on 4 acres.  Cheaper house in cheaper county.

Property tax = Rent

You never really own your home in America.  You just rent it.

Used to pay $13.5k/yr in taxes for a 3br/2b, 1,300 sq/ft single family Cape Cod style home on a 4,500 ft lot in NY on Long Island...
It was amazing to see property taxes go up, up ,up while home values went down, down, down during the housing recession. Only in NY
Needless to say I got the f*ck out of NY as soon as I could as I got
tired of paying up the ass to fund the NYC welfare machine....

$1.80-2.25 per $100 assessed value per year.  Assessed value is supposed to come in around 96% of the market value on residential, 65-75% of market on ag land .

Some counties are $1.80 and they range up to $2.25 or so here in Nebraska.

My stuff in KS is more like $1.10 per $100

3.2 acres, 1450 Sq. Ft. House, with attached two-car garage, assessed at $325,000.

The last time I paid real estate tax was in 2009. It was $3890 for the year.

Since that time, we have qualified for "Tax Relief for the Elderly" and for the past 5 years we have paid nothing. Zip. Nada. Ziltch.

Getting old is generally the pits. But now and then you find a benefit or two.

What fucks me on property taxes is school taxes which is the vast majority of property taxes here in PA. Plus they penalise you for improving your home- deck, paved driveway, landscaping all a penalty. I have a nice looking smaller modest home on less than 2 acres - $3800 per year. People living in a run down trailer with a dump in their front yard on a dirt road pay next to nothing...more junk=less tax penalty.

I think its time to one, roll back local government/school spending (of course) and two, shift the school tax burden here away from the property owner to a sales a tax. At least that way momma, baby daddy and their spawn living in public housing get to share the cost of schooling their kids.

Same thing here. $2300 for a basic 1270sqft house. Wishful thinking but it would be nice if "no kids" owners would get a lower tax rate. Fucking ISD now wants another bond and raising the rate come election time. Fuck them!!!

About $800 on .22 acres with a 1500 sq ft house.  I could sell it for around $150k tomorrow with no problem.
