No one mentioned the possible Ebola in New Jersey yet? Ya'll just want us to burn huh...

http://www.northjersey.com/news/passenger-at-newark-airport-taken-to-hospital-for-ebola-evaluation-1.1114189

They took a flight from Liberia through Brussels... quarantined for Ebola symptoms.
Just heard on the radio, along with two more possibles in Chicago.
Impossible, I've been assured that airline screening was worthless and wouldn't catch a single case.

Catching them after they get into the country.

After they have been sitting on an aircraft for 8 hours with 200 other people.

So effective in keeping it out of the country.

the screening is just that. if a person meets a set of criteria they go into QT for eval. that doesn't mean they have ebola.

first you guys are screaming nothing is being done, then when people are identified as a possibility you panic with "look at all these ebola cases flying in". so far we have ZERO cases in the wild here even with duncan being infectious outside the hospital.

I have it from some friends in Quantico, trusted sources, that he stood up in the plane, yelled "Allah Ackbar! Long live ISIS" and puked on everyone in the plane while chanting "Ebola!  Ebola!"  The Feds don't want the news to panic anyone, so the airline passengers have been taken to a black-ops CIA site and liquidated.

Governor Cheeseburger addressed the state that the guy does not have Ebola.

No we can all go about our daily lives.

Eta: his quote...

"There is no indication at this point that he has been infected with the virus,’’ Christie said. The “CDC is going to come and interview both the patient and the patient’s wife but we anticipate that the patient will be released"

Why can't he just say that the tests came back negative? Weird.

It will have to wait until the public digests the other ebola news of the day.
The government has decided that the smart thing to do is to monitor those who arrive from ebolaland for 21 days after their arrival.

DAY 32 SINCE FLYING -- No one on the plane was infected.

DAY 28 SINCE SHOWING SYMPTOMS -- No one was infected while he was asymptomatic.

DAY 26 SINCE FIRST HOSPITAL VISIT -- No one in the ER was infected.

DAY 24 SINCE TRANSPORT IN AMBERLAMPS -- No family members were infected (which is amazing).

DAY 14 SINCE DEATH --

1. Contracting Activity: Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 08, VACHS Medical Center, Facility Management Service at San Juan, P.R. Justification for Other Than Full and Open Competition RQ: 672-15-1-510-0030.

2. Nature and/or Description of the Action Being Processed: VA San Juan needs to conduct emergency installation of HEP Filters at the HVAC line that serves Ward 2K of the South Bed Tower and make a TAB once completed. This is a new requirement to be processed as a Firm Fixed Price one time job.

3. Description of Supplies/Services Required to Meet the Agency's Needs: The vendor must provide and install a filter frame for the return duct and HEPA filters for the return and supply systems. Once completed the Contractor must test and Balance the area (ward 2K of the South Bed Tower).

This emergency service is for the creation of a Ward to attend suspected patients with the Ebola Virus that have to be quarantine.

4. Statutory Authority Permitting Other than Full and Open Competition: FAR 6.302-2 (b)(2) Unusual and compelling urgency.

...

9. Any Other Facts Supporting the Use of Other than Full and Open Competition: This situation is considered an emergency and prompt attention is a required delaying repair will create a situation where an outbreak of Ebola may happen to patient, guest or employees.

Good to know, because the "patient safety" card no longer works for everything. Either that, or maybe it was a stretch to ask for a new TV in the break room for patient safety.

I actually went to Costco and bought a TV for the anesthesia lounge a few years ago, after the facility did a renovation and declined to replace the TV they removed.

Just claim that the Affordable Care Act requires a TV in the lounge. No one will bother reading the whole thing to correct you on it. Hell, for all we know, it might!

Didn't see this posted but this thread is hard to keep up with, thought that this was relevant to this thread...

Official WHO Ebola toll near 5,000 with true number nearer 15,000

(Reuters) - At least 4,877 people have died in the world's worst recorded outbreak of Ebola, and at least 9,936 cases of the disease had been recorded as of Oct. 19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday, but the true toll may be three times as much.

The WHO has said real numbers of cases are believed to be much higher than reported: by a factor of 1.5 in Guinea, 2 in Sierra Leone and 2.5 in Liberia, while the death rate is thought to be about 70 percent of all cases. That would suggest a toll of almost 15,000.

Liberia has been worst hit, with 4,665 recorded cases and 2,705 deaths, followed by Sierra Leone with 3,706 cases and 1,259 deaths. Guinea, where the outbreak originated, has had 1,540 cases and 904 deaths.

On Friday the WHO put the toll about 300 lower with more than 745 fewer cases.

In the past week, transmission of the disease was most intense in the capital cities of Monrovia and Freetown, while Guinea's capital Conakry reported 18 confirmed cases, its second highest weekly total since the outbreak began.

Although Ebola has been contained in Nigeria and Senegal, the disease is spreading towards Ivory Coast in both Liberia and Guinea, including in Guinea's Kankan district on a major trade route with Mali. Kankan saw its first case in the past week.

However, the WHO said the Liberian district of Lofa had seen a third consecutive week of decline in the number of cases, which reports from observers suggested was a result of disease control measures.

Among the thousands of cases are 443 health care workers, 244 of whom have died. The WHO said it was undertaking extensive investigations to determine why so many had caught the disease.

all evac cases have recovered, the latest was the camera man

Both nurses became symptomatic early last week, so yeah that was quick.

IIRC there have been 5 evacs, two infected here and one that flew here on his own accord so 7 out of 8 have lived.

It is worthless if the person is not showing a fever or is taking medication to lower the fever.

What temperature do they use to decide that the person cannot fly?   Is that adequate to prevent him spreading ebola during the long flight?

After only 1 week of treatment? Wow, that is amazing. Wonder if there is a new drug we haven't heard about. Or maybe catching ebola in its earliest stage is easier to treat, apparently a few days head start makes a huge difference.

Rapid treatment early in the infection, better physical condition than 90% of Ebola victims, better treatment than 99.9% of Ebola victims.  There are plenty of reasons they are getting better.

It seems like if you start treatment for this disease right away when symptoms first hit that you have a good chance of survival, especially with intensive care and experimental antivirals.

that seems amazingly quick. Something has SERIOUSLY changed with patient treatment. that or i have been working my ass off lately and time is flying.

so now for all the ebola cases detected here or brought for treatment 100% have survived? not counting duncan that was an import.

have any of the evac'd patients died in the US?

Both nurses now ebola free...great news.

So we currently have zero ebola cases in the US?

Yes I was told by someone's cousin who was close to the decision that the CDC issued a new guideline making it official that only actual Africans are allowed to die from Ebola.

*Not including the secret hidden Ebola cases that my brother told me about because his landscaper's brother's wife works at an unnamed hospital in an unnamed city and saw Ebola patients being ferried to the hospital by black helicopters.  My source is unimpeachable - should break any day now.

all evac cases have recovered, the latest was the camera man

Both nurses became symptomatic early last week, so yeah that was quick.

IIRC there have been 5 evacs, two infected here and one that flew here on his own accord so 7 out of 8 have lived.

thats what i was thinking. been busy the last few days and lost count.
