We have a couple old military machines, I think the only naval one is a gear cutter. The one in particular i was mentioning is a 16x54, which isn't really a big lathe by any means. It's a 47' model, and factory weight less tooling was 9500. so probably closer to 11,000 fully tooled with a box of accessories. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

And i'm having a really fun time finding the right lathe. Spent most of yesterday afternoon after a meeting looking at lathes, at several different machine tool companies. It seems, that anything under about 10 foot long they either don't buy, never see, or if they do buy it, it's a tool-room lathe. e.g. has no lead screw, so i can't thread on it. I found two awesome hartridge machines yesterday, both in my price range, one had no threading/leadscrew even though it came with a good 5000$ in chucks and tooling the other didn't even have a crosshead, and was setup as a turret/screw/secondary machine. damnit. I found a nice clausing/colchester with potential, but the guy wanted about three times it's market value, and it wasn't in particularly amazing shape. Found a monarch 13/54 with no pictures that would be almost perfect, still waiting on a response. Shot an email off, haven't heard anything. I also found a really big, but really, really badass antique ship lathe, still waiting on a response on it also as far as pictures / price. It's about 9500 pounds, so not only is hauling it going to be fun, but i'd probably have to take a wall down from the shop and some framing out just to get it inside. At least on the bright side, bridgeports are a dime a dozen. I found probably 25 yesterday all in great shape, and all of them in a fair price range. Maybe i should post pone the lathe for now. for you re-loaders, I should know this.
But I have a bunch of Win brass. From what I have found, this is one of the best brasses to reload. So I have sorted out a good bit. But its never fired from my gun. How should I start at 0? Just put the should at SAAMI specs? |

Reload it the same you would any other brass, after it's FL sized Win is good "in the middle" brass. It's not as soft as federal, so it has that going for it. |

We jsut use the old Airport office building. Sad thing is, its the same building for SWAT and K9 training. So I know it like the back of my hand. But for a lot of the guys its brand new so its fun to mix and match with guys youve never worked with. |
