I posted this in the AR forum but didn't get many hits, so figured I'd post it in GD for a little more traffic.

So, I have a 14.5" Carbine Gas DD CHF barrel on one of my guns. I'm going to be ordering my first suppressor here shortly and this gun is one I'm wanting to mount it on.

I've ran a couple google and site searches which yielded a few results, but none with a definitive answer, so here goes...

I understand there will be a greater POI shift with a LW barrel when compared to a heavier barrel profile. But is the POI shift so extreme that it would force me to re-zero for when shooting suppressed vs unsuppressed? I figure it shouldn't be so bad, considering the added material when switching to a government contour is all forward of the gas block, so I was assuming it wouldn't affect the POI shift all that much.

If it matters at all, the suppressor I'm looking at is the Surefire SOCOM 556 RC which weighs in at 17oz. Not the lightest of suppressors out there.

Either way, I'm looking for some actual user experiences. So have any of you run suppressors on your LW barreled rifles? What did you guys experience with POI shift as compared to heavier profiled barrels?

TL;DR - Have you ever used a suppressor on a LW/Pencil profile barrel?  If so, how bad was the POI shift?

On my 16" gun with a pencil barrel, I see a several MOA shift at 100 yards when I have my M4-2000 can mounted.  Since I run it  suppressed 95% of the time, I've just zero'd it with the can on.

Do you notice any repeatability issues when removing the suppressor then reinstalling it?

No, it stays the same.

I have this exact same barrel, except mid-length, with an AAC SDN-6. At 100 yards I notice about a 2 inch shift. I zero'd with can and leave it that way now. I am able to hit steel pie plate targets at 200 yards without issue with the can on. I am planning a range day Wednesday actually, to get the shift figured out before a match next weekend. I'll let you know if the shift becomes significant at longer ranges.

Went to range today, this won't be scientific but it'll give you a general idea.

DD CHF LW  mid length 14.5 pinned with AAC 2nd Gen brake. AAC SDN-6.

At 100 yards with can 4ish inch groups with 2moa dot with no magnification and resting on a backpack, no bipod or anything, and xm-193 bulk ammo. Same rifle without can is normally 2-3 in groups at same distance.

Moved out to 200, with can have a 5 inch high hold to hit center of steel plate. Without can POA=~ POI. Taking can off and on and firing it with and without can and grouping stayed the same, holdover stayed the same each time can was replaced etc etc. Windage didn't change with either. Keep in mind this is just to stay on a 8x12 steel plate.

At 300 with can have a bit more hold over, still staying centered on the target, but now holding 6-8 inches high to hit center. Didn't try 300 without can, forgot.

Basically, the grouping's etc stayed the same, with can there is a bit more holdover than without it. Taking it off and putting it back on did not shift 0 off of an 8x12 steel plate. And hits were all repeatable with same point of aim even after taking can off, firing, replacing can, firing, taking can off, firing. and so on.

Once you figure out the hold overs, and if you aren't shooting for super duper awesome single hole groups, the shift doesn't make that much difference.

EDIT: Now my heavy 18in bull barrel AR with this same can stays damn near the same as with can off.
