A local shop sells a lot of dd rifles and this one caught my eye. Their price is $1489 which seems insane for a di 16" ar15 without any sights but damn does it look good.

I am thinking about picking up a V11. But I am still on the fence.
|

I have one of their 16 inch models. I got it around 2010/2011 and it has functioned with no issues. I took it to a 5day/3000 rounds class and it was awesome. Accurate out to 500 yards with no issues. It is my primary AR.

You could piece together a serious rig for that kind of money.
That price already has excise tax factored in and you'll pay sales tax. But if you have to pay someone to assemble, that also has to be factored in.

I bought my DD rifles before their price surge a few years ago...I think there are better deals out there and that they are pricey, but I do believe they are worth their cost.

that isn't a bad price at all for that rifle. I kind of look at DD as on par with Colt as far as the base rifle itself, but with all the goodies you get with the DD, it makes up for the price difference from your base model 6920.

Yes they are worth the cost. I have two, one with 3.5 to 4k through it and the other about 500 rounds, neither have had failure any kind. DD makes a great barrel and stands behind their product. Only thing I would change is better factory trigger.
Shop around, should be able to find a better price online.

Don't know about the whole rifle but i know the accuracy there barrels are capable of is quite impressive.

Am I the only one that thinks that stock is ugly as hell? not a fan either Me neither, but my 6920 came with a Rodgers superstock and it is fugly as well. Damn easy to adjust, and solid when it is in position though. |

Absolutely. Good luck killing it.
My M4V3 (God I miss her) had 8k down the pipe when I was forced to sell her. Other than some krylon that was stuck in tiny places, she looked new. Dude who bought it didn't believe it had that many rounds through it. Absolutely bulletproof. |

Seems like a lot of unnecessary weight and space, especially with the full picatinny rail. |

I only just got my DD so i cant offer any long term opinion yet however my quick 60 round outing right after i got it was flawless.
Got a ddm4v5 model basically new in box. Other guy bought it, put a cheaper scope on it shot a ca mag through it (7 rounds) took it home and laid it against the desk. 3 weeks later some bills came due and well the rifle went back to the same shop he bought it from. Got it for a decent price imho, had all the original stuff just like the day he bought it, including the sales receipt. They even let me keep the scope it put on it. Though i will be upgrading that soon as i can figure out what i want to put on there. |

I got my DD M4v5 upper brand new from DD for 650ish. So I'd say yes.

The V9 is pure sex. Even that fuck-ugly DD furniture feels fantastic when you shoulder the rifle. I dont typically buy factory rifles but the V9 is on my list with a KAC.

You can save ~$100 on a new DD if you go through Gunbroker, I did. I got a DDM4V7 fairly recently, very nice gun!
I too had a little trouble getting over the new furniture, but it works fine. Looks unique, too. |

There was a guy posting on here with a second hand DD. It had some issue that I cannot recall and a rep from DD showed up in his thread and took care of him ad the issue. I want to say he had an issue with the barrel.
I was super impressed with the response |
|
Perfect timing for this thread, as I have been eyeing those up as well. Have seen a couple pass thru the EE for reasonable prices. Can anybody speak to specifics on the accuracy they are getting out of these? How does a DD compare to a Rainier? (other than the Ranier is pricier)

DD rifles are very good. It's actually a pretty good buy for the price.
DD has good customer service, from what I've heard. I was going to buy one, but got a really sweet deal on a slightly used KAC SR15. |
|
Check primary arms. Their online store was doing 400$ off DD for a while. I only have one factory built AR, rock river. If I do buy a factory one again it will be DD.
Have a lightweight 14.5 middy bbl from DD and it is fantastic. |
|
I'd buy one of their basic rifles, but that is too much IMO. You could put together a great AR with enough to outfit it with a decent FCG, optic and light for that amount of money.
The barrel and trigger is what you should sink your money in for a precision gun. 500.00 barrel, 300 trigger, 500 everything else That would include a good stock and all innards plus upper and lower and MI gen II SS FF rail. you save 500. add another 500 to what you saved and you can get a decent scope and rings to put on it from Vortex or Leupold or IOR. |
|
I think that rifle looks awesome.
And it is a terrific rifle. That being said, I would look into building it myself and see how much cheaper it would be. It isn't like you can't buy the same components. That would tell me if buying the rifle is worth it or not. If the price was close, I would probably just buy the rifle. If the price was a lot more, I would build it. But I like your choice of rifles. FWIW: I build my own so I can pick out each component and it also spreads the cost out over time since I am buying it a piece at a time. I can buy as much as I can easily afford at once. I got a DD catalog about six months ago, saw a rifle like that one and decided I had to build one. I got sidetracked and have built like three since then and still nothing like the one in the OP. |
