Yes, in production first shot must be double action with a minimum trigger 5lb pull.
Level 5 World IPSC Shoot starts Oct 2 in Frostproof Florida. I think there are over 2000 competitors from all over the world. I probably could have gone as an R.O. but it required 16 days of my time. Too hot in Fla for me and I would rather compete than work. |

What makes it tough is only doing one or two classifiers a month, compared to a special "classifier match" where you shoot six of them in one day. I joined in January of this year. Initial classification a C in March after a classifier match... IIRC 55%. Bumped up to B in May with a 63%. I had a couple in the 80's and low 70's since then and I'm sitting at 73% right now... one good classifier will bump me to A class. I screwed the pooch on the classifier today, but it won't hurt me because the score will be well under 55%, so it won't count since it's more than 5% under the minimum for B class. ETA: You can see how the percentages work out with a link. My classifiers I still have two that count back from March... in order to improve my percentage I need them to be higher than 63%. |

Weak hand is what got me today. As soon as I saw the stage description the first thing that hit my head was "Shit, I don't remember the last time I practiced weak hand in live fire". 2 mikes

Well, today I was the opposite. Looked good until the first two targets were scored. I knew I missed the head shot as soon as I fired it... I guess I'll look at the bright sight and say that I correctly called my shot. Then I missed the second one, but had good hits on the farthest.
ETA If anyone is wondering, you can draw and stand up... my analysis beforehand figured that I would be slower if I stood up so I stayed sitting down the whole time. I left the camera on for scoring too.

Our scores went up tonight. Missed winning Production by .8%.
I got all my videos uploaded but don't have them edited together yet. Here is stage 1... 116/120 points (22A 2C) in 14.23 seconds. Overall combined I only got beat by an open GM, Limited Master and the guy that beat me in Production. He was two seconds faster. You can't see it in the video but we're seated at a table with the gun laying on it.

Stage 2. Same array as stage 1, just back farther in the range. Start is unloaded, holstered, hands on marks, shoot'em as you see'em.
18 A 5 C 1 D and luckily no no shoot hits. I remembered being aware on the D hit that I was hurrying the shot due to the swinger. They have an indoor league over the winter on the indoor range, so I always feel like I should do better on these but I always seem slower than I should be on them.

Stage 4. My squad shot them out of order... This was actually the first one of the morning. I felt like it wasn't nearly as smooth as it should have been.
24 A 3 B 5 C in 21.93. Should have had this a couple of seconds faster. The guy that won had four more points in 2 less seconds.

I kicked ass on this one. 29 alpha 3 charlie in 20.54. The only guys to beat me in the combined results were an Open GM (five seconds faster) and Limited Master (3 seconds faster). Their points were one or two less than mine.

Second match I was all cocky going up to the star, and took about 20 rounds to clear it Learned a lesson that day.Watching some of those videos, you guys are still a lot better than I am. I'm way down in D class still. Did pretty decently this past weekend, except on the classifier. I hit the no-shoot four times to zero out my score on the stage.

I got there about an hour early and one of the guys walked me through a few stages to show the basics of how everything operates and all the safety rules and what not, but I don't know the nitty gritty details/rules. |

Don't be afraid to suck. LISTEN to the course of fire and follow it. Don't let errors on the course disturb you - in fact errors like that are awesome training!
