One thing stands out in these videos to me.  They never show it flying with a camera or gimbal.  That is a real challenge for these smaller quads.  The Phantom shines when it comes to aerial video and is a proven platform.  What about the GoPro interference issues like I suffered with with my Blade QX350s?  At least that is something that (knocking on wood) I have never had an issue with while flying my Phantoms for about a year or more now.  Phantom prices are coming down now also so I will just put that out there.  I know nothing about this particular quad so I really can't speak about what it does or doesn't do, but do a lot of searching before pulling the trigger on this one.  Walkera came out with similar last year and from all accouts has been a nightmare for most owners at a slightly higher price.

Here is a video with a gimbal and a Mobius camera.  The gimbal is a cheap 60-$100 Chinese one.  Also...this quad is the same size as the Phantom and uses some of the same parts.
From what I can tell...the camera is cheap as well.  Also...props need balanced

As for the gopro....where you using the wifi on it?  Just get a real FPV 5.8ghz transmitter and be done with it or maybe I'm missing something?  You can change out the receiver on this quad if it's needed too.

That video is horrible and that needs a lot more than prop balancing,  I seriously doubt there is a single DJI part on that quad.  It should work fine for a cheap beginner-learner quad but I wouldn't ever expect it to be much more.  I would definitely buy it over buying another Blade 350

They share the same props and motors to my knowledge.  Video admittedly isn't good.  Camera is crap. This is the camera that he used.  http://www.banggood.com/Mobius-Action-Camera-1080P-HD-Mini-Sports-Camera-Wide-Angle-Edition-p-917817.html
Nice part about a gopro is that it takes out a ton of jitter/vibrations.

There is a guy that is putting a 3d gimbal on his.  I'll make my judgements once he posts a video.

For some reason, I think this quad can be every bit as good as a Phantom.  Granted...It's new and cheap and doesn't have a long track record yet, but it's current record is proving the quad to be very good and stable  (based on reports I've read)

I don't know where you are getting your information but those are not DJI props or motors.  Not even close to the DJI 2212 920kv's currently on the P1 and especially not the P2 motors.  They are just some cheap no name Chinese stuff.  EDIT  says motors are EMax brand ????????

Motors are Emax MT2213 935KV.  I haven't seen a bad review for Emax  The blades are a no name that come with it.  They are clones of the Phantom blades as they are replaceable with them.

All of my sources are from RCgroups.com

The ESC are Hobywing SKYWalker 12-A
The FC is a BigFlyShark
The Receiver can be swapped out for a different one

The Company "Flying 3D" has been actively reading forums and listening to requests and changes that the community wants.  Firmware updates and software is about to be released.  They have also made some changes to the current production based on criticism that they have received.

I'm not trying to throw out BS.  There is a lot that I don't know.  I am completely new to this hobby.  I only have one quad, and it's a micro quad. (Hubsan x4 h107c)
I have a lot to learn and I'm guessing that this quad Flying 3d x8 would be a great start for me and most likely many other people too that can't see spending $600+.  I am open for advice and I want to learn.  Teach me Yoda.

I am just trying to teach you there is not a DJI part on this quad so don't expect anywhere near DJI quality.  I watched most of the videos in that thread (I am a member over there also) and all were full of vibrations and Jello effect.  For a beginner again this will be fine but you will soon want better!  There are a couple of competing quads mentioned in that thread with even more features for the same price you should check out first.  Near the last pages (sorry I didn't get the page #)  but around 40

It's amazing how rapidly technology is getting better and cheaper.

I'm still waiting to be able to get a decent thermal scope for under a grand though.

I really do appreciate it.  I suspect the videos being jello / shaky due to badly balanced blades and poor camera as they all are being recorded with that Mobius....
So...lets say this...If you had a $400 budget, what would you buy?

Not all the videos in that thread are mobius (which actually is very good for the price) and even ones with the gimbals were vibrating bad.  These are much more than prop issues.  Motors out of balance, bad (cheap bearings) wrong gains in the firmware, vibrations were transferring through the frame in some that even had the camera mounted in foam on the body.  Most quads have some Jello but those were very bad and all had BAD vibrations in all I watched from several different owners

$29 goggles, actually get decent reviews.

Anyone order one yet?  I thought about it, but already bought two more airplanes this week I didn't need.

Keep in mind, just the goggles.  You still need transmitter/receiver.  IIRC there was a review in this months Fly RC magazine.

Still curious to see an answer on the above question.

Last year I bought a new Phantom1 and Phantom FC40 for $409 each off EBay plus 4 spare batteries from Nitrohobbies.  Great seller by the way.  Keep an eye out and they may soon be on sale again.  I lucked up because 3 days later I could not find one under $499.  With that budget it really depends on what your end goals are with that particular Quad.

.If you had a $400 budget, what would you buy?

Still curious to see an answer on the above question.

The more I read up on it I'm leaning towards a Phantom 2, but I'm in no hurry so I'll see if these new offerings bring down the prices a little.

They just dropped the prices on Phantom 2s by $100 and the battery prices have come way way down.  The original $300 battery price kept me from buying the P2 version when they came out.  They are about $125 ea now and many are modifying them to use regular batteries.

I bought a Phantom FC40 last week and it came in today.  I made two flights with it and am amazed.  I will be putting the camera on it tomorrow and see how the FPV looks with it.  I think its a pretty good buy at $499

Knowing nothing about these, I see that there is an option for left or right hand throttle upon order. Can someone explain that a bit more?

I want to mount one of these thermal cameras to a quad copter but I have no idea how to broadcast the image in real time back to the operator. Since it uses an Android phone, is there some way to send the image by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth? Is something like that even possible?

Tough call on that.  Your phone would have to be capable of outputting live video via HDMI or some other form of output so that the 5.8ghz video transmitter could send the live feed to you.  WiFi doesn't have a great range (About 300 FT open field).  Neither does Blutooth (About 30 FT).

Can it be done...Most likely, but it greatly depends on your phone and if your quad can carry the weight

So the question is...can you hook up your phone to your TV to display what is on your screen?  If so, then you should be able to get this to work.

It's not a stand alone camera as it needs an an app that runs on the Android OS to work, so I don't think there would be any way of just outputting a video signal from just the camera alone. Who knows, maybe at some point it may be possible to make some sort of separate interface that may do it. I'm not familiar with how it works but it is done through USB. If something like a USB to video converter exists, maybe it could be rigged up that way.

It looks as if it uses the phone's usb port to power the camera and then uses the phone's camera to view the IR image.  Just a guess based on this image.  Edit:  Looks like I'm wrong...Interesting

I have one along with several others, and it would be awesome if it could be mounted to a quadcopter. We're discussing the camera in this thread in the Night Vision forum.

Anybody use these for shooting? Watching or checking targets at distance? After further research the phantom 2 vision plus is likely to get ordered by the end of the year hopefully sooner.
