Just because I think GD will have fun with this one, a question:
Texas decides to hold a vote similar to the one Scotland is having right now: To withdraw completely from the United States and become an independent Republic of Texas again. How would you vote if you could? Poll incoming with choices for everyone. |

The only issue with this is the border issue. Texas will get overrun so bad.

The only vote that matters on State secession is the US Army's. Not the people actually living in those States. |

I know that's how the Scotland vote is working, but since this is a GD thread I figured I would let everyone vote. Except the Mexicans. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

As a Brit I don;t really know enough about Texas and it;s relationship with the rest of the US to be able to make any sort of call on this. I do know that secession has been mentioned before, but this is GD. |

Right up until Abraham Lincoln decided that Statehood in the USA was life-long imprisonment in Uncle Sam's sex dungeon. |

How about we keep Texas and force New York and California to secede
|

I would vote TX out and then move to TX and become a citizen of that great Republic.

Secession?
I've know many Texans and they're not the type to flee from trouble. A better question would be to see if they would lead a take-over of the federal government! |

I think the other 49 states would vote to kick Texas out, willing or not, if it meant we never had to hear about the Alamo again. |

Without US military support Mexico would absorb Texas double quick instead of just quick, like they are doing now.

Without the feckless federal government telling us what we can and can't do with Mexican interlopers, I think there'd be a whole different shooting match along the border.

I just read that Houston alone has around 400,000 illegals. How do they factor into this vote?

Texas is as much a welfare state as Florida, so that will never happen...

I believe we had this discussion 150 years ago. It was messy then and would be again today. Although if you promised to take the Dallas Cowboys with you, I might consider it.

Depends. Will we handle the border better than the Feds are? Because I have thought about this in light of what's going on in Scotland before, and if we couldn't do a better job controlling the border, we'd be North Mexico in a generation.

In before jealous people in other states . . . oops, I am too late for that.
