Just because I think GD will have fun with this one, a question:

Texas decides to hold a vote similar to the one Scotland is having right now:  To withdraw completely from the United States and become an independent Republic of Texas again.

How would you vote if you could?  Poll incoming with choices for everyone.

I know that's how the Scotland vote is working, but since this is a GD thread I figured I would let everyone vote.

Except the Mexicans.

The only issue with this is the border issue.  Texas will get overrun so bad.

The only vote that matters on State secession is the US Army's.

Not the people actually living in those States.

Fair enough

I have no idea what I would vote for on this one.   As a Brit I don;t really know enough about Texas and it;s relationship with the rest of the US to be able to make any sort of call on this.

I do know that secession has been mentioned before, but this is GD.

It has the same relationship as any other State.  In theory, able to leave just as voluntarily as it entered.   Right up until Abraham Lincoln decided that Statehood in the USA was life-long imprisonment in Uncle Sam's sex dungeon.

Basically, Texas won't shut up about how cool Texas is and the rest of the states are wearing out their eyeballs from all the rolling going on.

I think the other 49 states would vote to kick Texas out, willing or not, if it meant we never had to hear about the Alamo again.

Secession?

I've know many Texans and they're not the type to flee from trouble.

A better question would be to see if they would lead a take-over of the federal government!

I seriously doubt it.  If Texas had unilateral control of its southern border, things would be very different.  Once independent, Texas would no doubt join NATO as well...

Texas National Guard ? All their arms belong to the fed, just saying.

I personally think Texans could handle the border better than the fed any fucking day too!

But you guys can't leave , it's a myth that Texas has it in writing they can leave anytime they want.

Any State can lawfully secede any time it wants to.   Texas v White was crap.  And the doctrine of perpetual union is found nowhere in the US Constitution.
