I really liked Google contacts except for the fact that I had to setup a sync between it and my address book since google didn't have a stand alone app.  Plus, the "groups" you created on google won't show up on iOS.  That's why I switched to iCloud contacts so I can have groups sync perfectly across devices.  It's a bit of a pain since I use google for email and calender and IOS/OSX for reminders, notes, contacts, etc.  But given the fact that I use strictly Apple devices with google services I knew there would be some things that didn't work perfectly together.  Plus I had that google is trying so hard to push everything to their Google +.

I bitch about it every chance I get - even on Apple message boards.  It remains a huge limitation and peeve of mine.

Don't get me wrong, Apple contacts is orders of magnitude better than google (and, in fact is what first led me to the iPhone after endless frustration with the latter). Still, it's ridiculous to have such a limitation in your mobile device, when the ability to assign and display groups is such a dominant feature of the whole interface.

As a user of both, I disagree; but I'd like to hear your take on it.

A year of constant frustration, inability to get it to track things, get custom labels right, sort things right, etc.  Nonstop frustration, endless hours of internet threads with smug Android types just telling me the most absurd things.  I started using the contacts on my iPod, and it was everything I hoped it could be - except the group category thing.  But, as log as I do all my data entry from the laptop I'm good.

My google contacts experience goes back to Blackberry, actually.  All sort of third party apps and what not, alwasy synch issues... finally listening to internexperts telling me to get Android and my problems would go away.  They didn't. they just manifested in wholly new ways.

I'm experiencing a minor annoyance right now.

If I'm in landscape mode and switch off to the messaging app, I have to tilt my phone up and back to get the app to change to landscape orientation.

Oh it'll screw it up alright. Especially if you use the iDildo that your phone came with.

Most people in my office that have iPhones after they've updated:

"What's different?"

Anyone else not able to pull down non-message notifications when they initially appear? I find I have to dismiss the notification and then pull down the window to clear it.

"This update cannot be installed because it requires at least 4.6 gigs of storage".

Does it really eat up that much space?

That's room to unpack the files, make temp files and internal backups.

It doesn't permanently consume that space. Just needs it to re-arrange things.

Use iTunes to update and you don't need that extra space.

Going to do my iphone 4 today. Need an excuse to lean on the VPs to get me a new fucking phone if they want me to be working all the time.  Tiny screen suck ass for un-fucking DNS issues. So I sorta hope it breaks something.

Did mine this morning.  No issues.  Haven't had time to play with any of the new features.  I have noticed a few small changes.  Recent contacts at the top while switching between active apps.  Not sure why they put that there.  Word suggestions while texting. A couple new icons.

Ok OS8 made my iPad Air gay.   Safari sucks now.

Not a fan of the stupid tips app that I can't delete.

The new wallpapers sure are pretty tho.

Gave swiftkey another shot because it has a dark keyboard option. Damn thing wouldn't insert a period after double tapping the space bar. Switched the function off and back on with no success.

Deal breaker so I shitcanned it again.

Hope Apple makes a dark option available sooner rather than later.

found another weird issue. for the last 2 days my phone has been randomly beeping <tritone alert>.

i suspect it was due to old saved voice mails as that was the only thing using that tone. i just turned it off so hopefully that will stop now.

Mine was making noises too.

I assume it was to try to get me to update the OS.  It did that last time a week or two before it forced an update on me.

I have yet to read of a 4s user not having major issues.

Of course, if you are like me, you 4S apps just about all updated in the last few days, and are thus running slower.

More on updating a 4s:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/18/iphone-4s-ios-8_n_5842166.html

If you use an iPhone 4S, do NOT update it with iOS 8.

Apple says you can load your 4S with iOS 8, the new mobile operating system Apple released on Wednesday. But you really shouldn't.

iOS 8 was not made for us 4S users. It was designed for bigger screens than the 4S has. And that's the least of our worries.
