What bolt rifle would you wish you had, if your small plane crashed and stranded you (alone) in the Alaska bush for 3 months; with only the rifle on your back and 1 cargo pants pocket full of ammo?
Lets assume its summer, and you did not get badly hurt in the crash. and Yes, I have been watching a bit of Mountain Man & Alaskan Rail Road tv shows lately |

I wear some big ass BDU bottoms...I guess I could fit 3 20 round boxes of .308 in my pants.
Probably a Remington 700 PSS with good glass. |
|
something light and handy that has very manageable recoil so I would say savage trophy hunter xp in .308 or 30.06
|
|
A friend has a .450Marlin built on a 700 action with a leupold 1-6. That would be it
|
|
Winchester M70 Stainless in 30-06 or .375 HH. Either round is effective on game in Alaska and can be found at any hunting cabin you may come across.
|
|
most likely a stainless marlin 882 .
one cargo pocket full of a large round is not going to get you very far. 22mag will feed you and protect you if your smart about it. |

If I am absolutely STUCK with a turn-bolt mauser style rifle, I'd take a .338 win mag.
If I had MORE choice it'd more likely be an 1895 lever gun, in 45-70. |
|
Winchester M70 stainless/synthetic in .300 win topped with Leupold 3-9 variable.

My custom CZ 527 M Carbine with shilen 6.5 grendel barrel. Lightweight and capable round that I could put quite a few in my pocket, and the rifle with scope only weighs 7lbs.

|
My Mauser K98k, with the FR8 barrel, and scout scope. I'd wanna change my bullet though. 168 might be a tad light there

I would much prefer a lever action but if it had to be a bolt gun I would take my Winchester Model 70 in .338 Win Mag

Swedish Mauser with Norma 156gr Alaska ammunition. http://www.norma.cc/en/Products/Hunting/65x55-Swedish-Mauser/Alaska/

Remington 788 carbine in 308, with a nightforce 2.5-10. I can carry a bunch of mags in my pocket.

honestly, the one my grandfather has lee enfield jungle carbine short, sturdy, accurate enough, and light http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/British-Lee-Enfield-No.png View Quote That works for me too. |

I would say Enfield or Mauser. Both tried and true calibers and actions.

Some people have already mentioned somewhat exotic firearms. That's just ridiculous if you're stranded alone for 3 months. It's best to go with something that's simple and proven. It just goes to show that some don't know how to properly plane. |

Remington 711 with pockets full of cci mini mag hp. Jack O Connor wrote about a guy who rode from the PNW the Yukon with a Colt Woodsman and didn't miss any meals. Lots of game has been killed with the .22 rf.

If I worked the action fast, it would take the skin off the knuckles. Of my pinky and ring fingers. They are great packing rifles though. |

Any major manufacturer's rifle in .338 Rem Mag. One cargo pocket could hold a hundred rounds if it was on the big side and the ammo wasn't in boxes.

Either way it's an (older) remington 700 with really good glass.
