Not trying to be an ass, but why should any average American care about this? Defense, quite a few joint and US assets/bases in Scotland. Economic impact on our closest ally and a major trading partner. It is quite possible the financial collapse of Scotland would have a negative effect world wide like the Spanish collapse. This is what I don't get. Do they not see this? |

The Scots are voting between a Turd Sandwich and a Giant Douche. The result in both cases gives them bad government. Uh, no, they are deciding between a turd sandwich of their own turds, and a tasty buffet paid for by others. There are many things you can say about the government of the UK but "tasty buffet" is not one of them. |

Comrade Salmond has the uneducated thinking Scotland will just slip into all the treaties that the UK is part of. Unfortunately the whole basque thing would have the French and Spanish block this.

lol
So BOTH the Shetlands and the Orkneys are NOT interested in an independent Scotland. Yeah, good luck with all that oil revenue that you imagined you'd have, Scotland. |

Inverclyde voted No. ...JUST (by 0.08%) Is Inverclyde rural or urban? I know it was close as hell. Mixed Part of the urban sprawl from Glasgow - so LOTS of influence from there, & some minor coastal/rural areas. |

My area result was due 02.00
Now almost 1 hour 50 LATE IF this trend continues, going to be a long night for some. Lots of areas were due to declare at 03.30 - so results may be thick & fast in the next few minutes - or not, depending on the Local Gov't staff doing the count |

Scottish election results live feed:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scottish-independence/11106839/Scottish-independence-referendum-results-live.html It appears that the "no" votes (to Scottish independence) are winning rather handily. |

#7
1st YES result DUNDEE 57.35% One of the SNP heartlands - and not a surprising result |

Is this decided by a majority of the popular vote nationwide, or does it matter that different areas vote a particular way.

I realize the urban will likely vote yes but for the geographically challenged which ones are urban and which are rural? Glasgow - YES - plus a few zones of influence around them. MOST heavy industry was traditionally West Coast/Glasgow/Clyde Edinburgh - not sure, probably NO MOST of Scotland is rural though, with few cities One of the bigger cities, and the most expensive outside of London - Aberdeen - is predicted to go NO (oil town) Other than that - nothing is set in stone My area was due 02.00, then 03.00, now 04.00 (so even late at the 3rd attempt...) |

Been watching for about an hour. Its impressive to see such high turn out compared to the embarrassing turn out we get for important issues.

Difference is only 9000 votes, so that can be swayed easily from some of the large population centres.
