6 days ago French troops have reportedly destroyed an al-Qaeda convoy in Niger that was transporting weapons from Libya to Mali, and also captured some of the group's fighters, the French presidency has said.
The office of President Francois Hollande said in a statement on Friday that its forces, in cooperation with local authorities, had destroyed a convoy in northern Niger and captured fighters from al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). "The intervention enabled a large quantity of weapons to be seized and to neutralise a number of those in the convoy, including some who were captured," the statement read. AQIM has been present in the western Sahel region of north Africa since it was pushed out of Algeria. French troops have been based in the Sahel region since January 2013, to hunt down fighters, including AQIM who have seized control of Mali's northern desert cities. French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has said around 3,000 French soldiers are part of a wide counter-terrorism operation, codenamed Barkhane, in five countries along the southern rim of the Sahara. Operation Barkhane, named after a crescent-shaped sand dune, involves the use of drones, helicopters, fighter jets, armoured vehicles and transport planes against fighters in Burkina Faso, Mali, Chad, Niger and Mauritania. Some information about this raid (from several news sources).
It seems there was a Mirage 2000D strike, followed by a SF raid by helicopters. This modus operandi was already used previously, but this time the helicopters flew 1500 km to reach their target. 6 vehicles were destroyed, 15 bad guys were killed or captured. SA-7 missiles, 23 mm AA guns, ammos, and ~100 anti-tank rockets, for about 3 tons were seized.

This time, "no fireworks" according to military sources. The terrorists quickly surrendered to French SF ... 2 tons of equipments were seized. |

Iraq (pics from mp.net). If somebody told me in 2003 when I was lurking there and French-bashing was sky-high that one day I would be posting pics of the French army in Iraq... 
Operation Chammal; 2 terrorist "pick-up" destroyed during an air raid During an armed reconnaissance mission in the area of ??Tikrit, 200km north of Baghdad, moving targets have been transmitted to flight crews. After their identification by Rafale pilots, they were treated with 3 laser-guided bombs GBU 12 [...].
