The way their Tankers use Ballistic Vests as supplemental armor on their hatches is neat.

Armored Car crew would be considered 'tankers', right?

I think their uniforms, armored cars and the FR-F2 look pretty cool.  The FAMAS is comme-ci, comme-ca, but does have the ability to fire rifle grenades.

Also no pics of it here, but they use a sort of amphibious armored Jeep called the VBL that's tres kick-ass.

As far as practicality, their gear actually seems more so than ours (at least in the sense of being smaller and more suited to that sort of environment).

It has always killed me when people hate on the French.  Honestly, they got rolled ONCE, in 1940, and then nobody gives them any credit.

Guess they forgot about WWI when they gave up a generation to fight The Hun.  Guess they forgot about all those partisans in WWII who never gave up.

People who wear those "America: Two Time World War Champs" shirts piss me off. We didn't do much of anything in WWI.  And the path to victory in Europe in WWII was largely paved with British and Russian corpses.

The controls for the scope/camera. The system is designed around a scope/camera so you can shoot behind cover.

THIS.  The French obviously took good notes during their time in Afghanistan when they were observing US operations and tactics and have applied what they learned to their army to turn it into an ass-kicking force that is just what the fighting they're doing calls for.  I half think what they're doing is practicing for when they have to root the muzzies out of France.

I always saw it as more of a comentary of French politics and culture, but respected their warriors. Unfortunately I see us going that was soon unless things turn around.

You can have a great military, and we do, but if politics keep them from fighting, or make them do so with one hand behind their back...well I hope we correct our course with a strong leader the next time around

I suspect they're just stowing them there so they can pull them on quickly in case they have to get out.

Probably hard to get in and out of the hatch with that on.

I've noticed the French seem to like to have a lot of bigger guns on smaller, mobile vehicles.

I thought the French had the "G" model, which has the safety lever act only as a decocker.   Wish those were available in the US longer than they were.

Its not as supplemental armor.

Its just a good place to hang it so you can grab it on your way out when you need to walk around.

You don't want it inside because it will snag on everything.

See also:  This is my turret in Afghanistan.  Body armor was worn, but on the back of the hatch you can see the straps where I hung my rack.
