I think studio fucksticks do it on purpose.
One of the biggest battles to getting "Shameless" off the ground was the network's insistence it be about a southern family. They didn't believe Chicago white trash would make for good entertainment. ETA: Shameless isn't "reality TV" but followed the same line of reasoning in the studio's need to ridicule southerners. |

you brought up a good point. I grew up all over SE OK and SW AR and while I have met a ton of interesting people and some are downright questionable, but a lot of the shows on TV that depict southerners are pretty fraudulent in their acting.
to be brutally honest, a lot of the people in the South that have "personality" don't live long enough to be in a TV show. |
