I'm sure the beer snobs will be along shortly to explain the error of my ways.

I drink maybe two six packs a year.

Last night a friend said "I know you don't drink much but taste this".

I drank three last night and they all tasted great.

Seems to me to have less carbonation too but I don't drink enough to be able to tell.

Just bought my first six pack in years.

Wow honestly OP you need to drink more beer seriously.

You should come out to portland in the last weekend in july and get your brewfest on it will change your outlook on what is good beer.

Not the best.  But good if you don't have any microbrews in your area that makes authentic german ocktoberfest

Sam Adams usually does a pretty good job, Oktoberfest is no exception.

Also...my current go to kind of local beer is Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager.

It is delicious.

I am, by all accounts, an immense beer snob.  I drink all sorts of trappist ales and one-off microbrews and shit no one can find.

I think Sam Octoberfest is delicious and I look forward to its release every fall.  Don't let the other snobs shame you.

Octoberfest is the best tasting beer ever, would have been a more accurate statement - and a statement I could get behind.

Glad to hear you found a beer you like though, everyone should have a go-to.

Beer taste is extremely subjective.

But you are correct.  A lot of people that like beer, like Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

Good stuff.

Not a beer snob so my opinion means little here in GD, but I had some Spaten Oktoberfest last weekend and thought it was pretty good!  I'm definitely going to buy some more if I can find it.

lol.

Comparing anything sam adams makes to that is like comparing a turd to a bugatti. Until I'm proven otherwise, Brouwerij Van Steenberge N.V. makes the best beer in the world.

With the exception of Boston Lager, and only on tap, Sam Adams is a pathetic brewery.

Most times I will accept ones decision and politely disagree, but there are billions of other "October Fest" style of beers to rave about.

SA Octoberfest is pretty good beer (I'm having one right now). I try to sample as many octoberfest beers as I can this time of the year.

Pretty good.  Yesterday I had a Warsteiner Oktoberfest for the fist time this year.  Also a solid choice.

This.  It is a pretty good beer.  Wish Sam Adams brewed it year round.  Spaten makes a pretty good Octoberfest as well.

Sam Adams makes a good beer, but Bootleggers makes better beer.

Well one thing I have learned over the years is your tastes are all yours.
I have tried SA beers and generally liked them, Octoberfest is a good offering.
I did just try an O'fallon Smoked Porter this weekend and can say I really genuinely enjoyed it!
Boulevard here in KC and O'fallon out by St. Louis offer some very solid choices including some good seasonal beers!!
If ya find one you like I say:

why would you recommend IPAs to someone who is into Marzen / Octoberfest beers? All these people saying drink better beer(!) and only like 2 actually recommended examples of festbier style.

Victory should have distribution in WV, my recommendation would be to give their festbier a try. Not that Sam's Octoberfest is a bad example of that style but there are better.

I don't think its been a week.  It was like 4-5 days ago.  I can't search for it.

Try a shop that will let you build your own six pack and you can try all kinds of different beers.

SA makes some pretty good beers, but there are better ones out there. Micro beers are the ticket.

It's pretty mediocre as is most of Sam Adams beers. They are good stepping stones into the world of craft beer for people that only drink Bud Light.
