another vote for Primary arms.. classic 30mm red dot with flip to side 3x magnifier http://i59.tinypic.com/2i04p51.jpg View Quote I just bought one of these red dots for my daughter's AR and she loves it. What type of magnifier/mount are you using? |

I used a Bushnell TRS-25 for several years when I first got into ARs. I zeroed it once when I first got it, it held the zero forever, and I even shot some simulated 500-yard torsos at a class with it once. They can be had on Amazon for $80.

What type of magnifier/mount are you using? Got it during their Christmas sale it was a package deal and I upgraded it for the flip to side mount. its their standard 3x PA magnifier with their flip to side mount, I will say this I should have went with the long eye relief with the magnifier. you are still shooting nose to charging handle. |

If you don't care if it looks like a clone of a military RDS, the Ultradot is a very good sight. They are really rugged, have a lifetime guarantee, and are made in Japan. SSK recommends them for use on their "hand cannons", and they are very popular as a competition sight.

I'd like to put another one in my SOCOM 16's forward rail, but that's further down the road. |

Primary arms. Or save a little more and get a PRO. Or save a little more and get an Aimpoint T1. Or save a little more and get an ACOG.
See where im going with this? But seriously the Primary Arms Micro is my favorite sight. Awesome quality, light, small, and inexpensive. |

Then save a little more and get the Nightforce. Then save a little more and get the USO.... At some point he needs to quit buying stuff and get to shooting. This coming from a guy with multiple Trijicons, Nightforce and other high-end parts. |

The Vortex strike fire is a good option. the lifetime warranty is a big plus.

Right now, what's better...to have a good optic and be able to shoot with it, or to shoot with irons and think about how great it's going to be when you finally get your Aimpoint?
You can find something of good quality in your price range right now. Better to have a good optic now and save up to get a great one later. Or, perhaps you'll be perfectly happy with your good optic and not even want the more expensive one. You'll have an optic for your rifle, and if you decide later to upgrade, you'll have TWO. Remember, two is one, one is none! That's what I tell my wife. Just my $.02. |

+1 Sightmark makes some decent red dots too. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes I haffta agree on the "Sightmark" I have the Ultra Shot Reflex and a 5x mag made by them and I have had NO problems with either. $199.99 "buy it now", free shipping, on fleabay. At 200 clams, I had to try out the eotech clone, and it's magnifying cousin... I wasn't disappointed at all. 5 moa dot, clear magnification. great for medium range shooting with the 5x, or cqb with the red dot alone. The mag comes with a side to side mount for ease of switching between the two. Made to last and shock proof. IMHO? Great "lowball" deal on a "Medium/High end" optic. And no... I don't work for them... BUT... You have shot a buncha rnds with just your Iron Sights, right? You can group rounds where you want them with BUIS? Actually, you should be pro-efficient with the buis system way before acquiring, and becoming efficient with any kind of optics... Just sayin'... 'cause optics fail, BUIS don't. That's why they call them "Back-up". |
