God gave Man many commands. People forget that the first order of God to Adam was to name things because, although God created them He didn't know the names until Adam gave them names.
Genesis 2:19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them. And whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 2:20 And Adam gave names to all the cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field, But for Adam there was no help for him. I live this lesson daily. EVERYTHING has a name. There can be no higher order than to call things by their name. |

I'll disagree with that. We have the right, given by God Himself, to defend ourselves from the evils of this world. We are supposed to do so in love and with compassion, but it is still my responsibility to protect my family and, if necessary, my nation. Compare and contrast that the 2nd time the Lord sent out the disciples (passage in Mark, IIRC) he asked them if they had swords, and determined that 2 swords amongst the 12 of them was enough. My take on this is that we are allowed to defend ourselves (unless being persecuted for the sake of the Gospel) but should not obsess over defending ourselves. |
