IM not new to riding motorcycles but am new to the Harley scene. I seem to like Fatboys, Wide Glides, Vmax and favorite is prob the Night Train.

Any years I need to stay away from?

I have zero interest in a sportster no matter what size.

What is high mileage on a used bike?

Dyna for riding

It isn't the mileage it is how it was treated during those miles

up the road from here is a Victory with 200k+ miles

Road King with <10k miles.  Removable windshield plus bags.  Low center of gravity.  Fat tires ride nice.

VMax is a Yamaha.

I like to ride distances, two up & there's no better way than a FLHT

Edit;  The one we have now is an '07 with 82K one owner miles & its fine. As said, its not the miles it's the condition & how it's been taken care of. I'd rather have mine than one just like it with 8,200 miles, spending all that time setting &/or not being stored well.

Depends on how you plan on riding.  Days long highway trips, some highway, city only...

Dyna and Softails are always safe bets.  Dyna's will feel slightly more nimble, but not as nimble as a sporty.  Softails will be better with bags and such, should be more comfortable, but you don't get the experience like a Sporty or Dyna.  Obviously, Touring is a whole different ball game.

Road just about every brand and every style.  First HD was a Road King.  Great ride and put the fun back into riding for me.  Easy to handle and 'old guy' features like a windscreen and bags to make life easier.  Sort of midway between a full dress land yacht and a bare naked, kidney killing hard tail.  Big Twin won't outrun a crotch rocket, but I can still walk upright after 300 miles in the saddle.

I became aware of this particular bike the other day.  Drool worthy for sure.

Kid graduates from high school, and I'm going to get a new toy!

Here's a first ride review:

They dug it.

I'm not much into cruisers, but I dig it too.

Those were always really nice bikes. Production ended way too soon on them.

That would be my second choice to an FLH of some type

I would take the $10000 and you, drop you off in the middle of nowhere, place the $10000 on the ground and to top it all off spill a quart of used motor oil on it.   Same result as owning a Harley.

Wait a few years and all the posers who bought them will start to die and you should be able to pick one up cheap.

Just picked up a dyna street bob for $8,900, 18,000+ miles. Perfect bike for me, bigger than a sporty but not a land yacht.

2k beater Sportster and eight grand worth of clothing, doo rags, belts, boots, hats, sunglasses and jackets that say Harley Davidson all over them.

If there's $ left over, get yourself one of those black and orange "Harley Davidson Parking Only" signs for your garage too.

I'd buy a Buell with a Harley engine.  Least objectionable choice given the limitations.

Then I'd sell it and buy a Kawasaki dual sport or sport-tourer.

All 10 grand on the Harley? What about the trailer and the clothes? That's another 10 grand at least! The Harley is useless without the trailer and the threads!

Ive had enough with the sport bikes. Im a bit older now so the speed/adrenaline rush just isn't important as it used to be. I plan on keeping both wheels on the pavement for now on.

A dog ran out in front of me one night while I was on my CBR900r  I went over the bars and put the bike down. I had minor injuries but killed the poor dog, so I took a break from riding for a while and now Im over 40 and looking to get back into riding but am over the whole has fast does it go feelings.

Yeah, something other than a Harley.

Shit, right now I'd probably get a WeeStrom and use the change for some nice add-ons like Pelican panniers and some other cool shit.

Well luckily I already have a trailer and full size 4x4 to pull it around in. I figure I could slowly add clothes as I go along.

Used Kawasaki or Yamaha.  Use the rest to take a nice vacation.   Heck, you might be able to afford two, especially on all the money you will save on maintenance.
