Ive been wamting one and am thinking about throwing my Sig 556 on the chopping block to boost the toy fund to pick up the ACR. Anyone own the ACR or both?

interested in replies. I hear Radom is opening a factory in the US, they'll be making both an MSBS Bullpup and a Rifle, which was an ACR to begin with. |

I'd convert that 556 to an A1 or 552 clone before I ever gave DPbushingtonMS money.

In that price range, check out the brand new Sig 556 XI or 556R XI? It supposedly does most of what the ACR and SCAR do for 1.1 grand give or take.
MAC did a decent and fair overall rundown and comparison of the SCAR and ACR a few years ago here . |

I almost pulled the trigger on one a few months ago, but I decided against it. At this point I'm sticking with ARs until something else just blows it away. I have so many hours on the platform and with an M4 as my duty rifle I might as well stick with it.

The only way I would ever buy an ACR I'd if it was about $700.., at that point I'd still have to think about it and still might pass.

I've been looking for a 551-A1 Swiss style lower and if I could find one that won't run me a grand to convert to, I'd probably do that. I have a late Gen1 Sig 556 SWAT with the long rail system. I traded a spare AR (that I built for $600) I had for it. Sig sells the Swiss style handguards but apparently dropped the 551-A1 lowers. |

I have one and like it. I did an extensive review, but it got nuked with the BM industry forum. I think I also posted it on TOS and LF if you are a member of either of those.

I bought one when they first came out in 2010, $2400 from aim. Nice rifle, no issues at all, routinely shot 400+ yard half silhouettes with it but the quick change barrel lever was very weak and would break (mine didn't but I only used it a few times). I sold it in 2011 and would like another one but at half of the price that I paid. There's some footage of my wife shooting suppressed it in this video http://youtu.be/NkIul_o-hUg

I have a love hate relationship with mine. I love the rifle, but I hate that bushmaster basically abandoned it. Buy one and if you hate the rifle you can sell it easily.

I did a little searching today, made a few phone calls and tracked down a 551 lower. I should be able to toss my factory 556 lower with the M4 stock and adapter on the EE and just about break even. WOOT

I love my ACR and recommend buying one if you want one, but Bushmaster/Remington/Freedom Group's lack of support for the platform in the form of new accessories and barrels is disconcerting. Never shot a SIG rifle. They seem cool, though I'm not sure if I'd ever buy a US made SIG. |

I have an ACR. I bought it about two years ago. It's a great rifle, but I own it purely as a range toy. And, I did not buy mine with any expectation of caliber conversion kits from Bushmaster.
It is a bit heavy. I own a SCAR 16 too and most of my friends who have shot the two side by side prefer the SCAR. I prefer the SCAR too, but I'll hang onto the ACR as something different to take to the range. |

It was an abortion of a rifle as soon as Magpul ejected.
You could buy 2 great rifles for the price of one. |

ETA: you can retrofit an airsoft Remington style handguard onto the Bushmaster ACR View Quote That's neat but what makes the Remington version so sweet is more than just the hand guard. There's a pound in weight savings just from the barrel change redesign. Plus the more ergonomic receiver, 1/7 twist barrel, and AR grip compatibility. As for the usual "It was a good design until Bushmaster screwed it up" comments in this thread, the reality is Bushmaster didn't change anything except for the barrel twist. Selling it to Freedom Company was a great move in that Remington has really refined the ACR into the best replacement of the M4 - if there ever would be one. I just wish Bushmaster would update their product line with the Remington revision or better yet, Remington Defense start selling semi-automatic variants. |

It's the answer to a question that never needed to be asked.
I'm not really impressed. I prefer a good quality AR. Now a SCAR 17 |
