Quoted: Or that stupid series 80 firing pin safety View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Ahh, let me guess - full length guide rod, which goes through the plug? God I hate those...yeah you need a bushing wrench for those, annoyingly. Next time...take it apart/put it back together with a big clear plastic bag over your hands and gun. At least if it gets launched, it'll have to fight it's way out of the bag first Next time, she can clean her own damn gun. Eta- yes, full length guide rod that goes through the plug. There's you problem. full length guide rods are not a JMB design iirc. Or that stupid series 80 firing pin safety |

How else can you take it apart? No clue how else. That was the first time I have ever messed with a 1911. You can pop and remove the slide stop and slide the assembly off as a whole...it's a bit of a pita as the whole assembly needs to be held at the clearance notch under spring pressure as you push the stop out, but it's not terribly difficult. It's putting it back together in that way that's the real bitch... |

I'm not sure it works the same with a full length guide rod but on mine you can pull the slide lock and remove the slide without messing with the barrel bushing. The spring still has tension when you open it but parts are less likely to fly across the room and be eaten by the cat. |

That way, there is no tension on the barrel link while trying to insert the slide stop. |
