I try very hard never to vocalize any class warfare comments but sometimes I struggle internally. I fully get that hard work, intelligence, luck, networking, etc make people successful and I don't want to take anything from anyone.
It's pretty easy to look at my life an ID a half dozen real poor choices that have directly lead to my current life circumstances (which aren't horrible) but I do work two jobs and I am thankful to be working but I just spoke to a couple that couldn't be two years older than me that live in a nice three car garage house, new Cadillac SUV and F150 king ranch in the driveway. Or my Brother in law that just bought my SIL a $6,900 cannondale road bike. She has never been on a road bike. They're a year older than me.

I fully expect to get loved tenderly ITT and if I wanted pity I would have posted in Team but what I'm getting at is how do you avoid jealousy and class warfare?

And go...

Just keep at it. You'll eventually make it.

I work hard too, but struggle with being motivated to move up.  We all have to remember that there's no trophy for just showing up.

I'm a lawyer and my wife is a doctor.
I get the class warfare thing all the time.  People are always suggesting ways to spend the money they think we have and, lo and behold, get pissed when we don't take them up on it.  It is amazing how presumptuous people are when they're talking about what they think is your money and your spending habits. (eta, especially if they're friends or relatives who work on commission.  My brother, as best man, threw a guy out of my wedding reception who did real estate for a living and was working the party like he was selling sham wow)
Instead of living large, we're paying off student loans, our mortgage, funding retirement and funding 529's for our kids.

I don't struggle with it. I work hard and try to make smart decisions. I do ok and never really made a lot. To be honest, I probably have more than most because I learned to take care of myself, I can fix it, paint it, make it last and take care of it myself and I've never been afraid to get my hands dirty.

What bothers me is the whole "class warfare" thing, making people believe they are victims.

Fuck.....The poor don't know what it's like to be poor. I was there in my twenties. I could have asked for help from the folks who did ok, but I wasn't going to do that to them. If our so called "poor" had to live like the other 2 billion that heat up some rock soup over a burning lump of dried water buffalo turd with three kids hanging off the tit, they might just get off thier asses and try a little harder.

The new "poor" is the old "middle class".

Don't fall into it. Do for yourself, Integrity and pride is where it's at and where it always will be. They make it too easy to give up. The golden shackles of big government help are willing to take as many participants as they can. All you got to do is make that decision and sign up. But once they have you, they never give you enough to better yourself.......just enough to keep you there under their thumb.

All this talk about class warfare these last few years has actually soured me on helping anyone. And I've known some genuinely but really great poor people. Funny thing is.....they all accepted it  and dealt with it. Made the best of it. That's says a lot about a person.

Wikipedia says

Class conflict, frequently referred to as class warfare or class struggle, is the tension or antagonism which exists in society due to competing socioeconomic interests and desires between people of different classes

People think we're "rich" whatever that means.

We're not.  So they get pissed if 1. we don't pick up the tab, 2. invest in whatever they or their kids are selling, etc. etc. etc..

Student loans for a doctor, who also had student loans as an undergrad, and got paid a meger stipend as a resident and in a specialty fellowship means that she didn't start getting a paycheck until she was in her mid 30's.  Student loans are bigger than some people's mortgage payment.

In other words, everybody assumes that they know your financial situation and that you don't have a care in the world.

We make enough, but we're using it to pay down the debt to get here while getting murdered for the privilige on taxes.

So, I'd say we experience "envy" that is unwarranted.

Plus, it's not like we "lucked" our way into our positions.  There was a lot of competition to even get into the pipeline, and then career competition to get into our respective positions.

Stop buying guns and multicam and work towards a better future.  If you work low paying jobs you will not get ahead.  If you don't find either a niche or educate yourself into a better field you will be stuck right where you are wondering why others who saved or got educated or networked are advancing while you are out shooting dirt.

You cannot create wealth out of thin air.  The wealth that society as a whole produces is finite...a
dollar in your pocket means a dollar less in someone else's pocket.
Behind every rich person stand hundreds or thousands or even millions of
poor people...losers in the capitalist casino.

So you are in the same ethical position as the old Confederate
slave-owner...who thought he should have the "freedom" to buy as many
slaves as he wanted to. - Revleft High School Commies Guide

That's the basis of socialism.

The rest are just tricks to convince people it's something beyond jealousy and to convince "the people" of the need for The Socialist to be in charge so he can make things "equal".

Except for the socialists in charge, of course.

Angry as hell about my situation even though I've worked my ass off since I was old enough to get a job.  I've gambled and flipped goods to try to catch small breaks.  I've failed at a small business that didn't have enough financial backing and I'm 40k in the hole for advanced education.  Growing up with financially unstable parents has made me desire the intangible that money grants.. security, freedom from stress, and to not be forced to take unfavorable deals or loans.

As for the Ranch King or SUV that sits in your neighbor's driveway.. part of me could care less about that shit and the fact that your neighbor has it.  The other part of me thinks it could be nice but only when its already fully depreciated, purchased used, and then driven til the wheels fall off.  There are high value choices and then there are high fashion choices.  A new ranch king and a new escalade fall into the latter.

The kind of class warfare that you talk about OP, I simply have 0 fucks to care about or waste any kind of energy with.

So much this.

Technology has reduced the costs of consumer goods immensely, and given us wonders that would've been either inconceivable or insanely expensive just 20 years ago.

Just look at your phone and consider that it can either emulate or outdo pretty much all of this (and with a lot more songs than a CD):

Not trying to be a dick even though I am a dick.  I had a private that smoked constantly and never had money for uniforms etc.  I knew another guy who could piss away E6 pay in the casino and plenty that never had anything in the savings account due to sloots and the military life style.

From what you openly project on the internet you are constantly keeping up with the jones in the tactical gear shit.  You do not need a haley d3 rig.  You do not need a pile of mags.  You like those things.  The private liked his cigarettes others liked the booze but it is the little shit that you have nothing to show for.

I used tobacco for 10 years and quit.  I keep a tab on the money I have saved and laugh when I am in a gas station for something and see the ridiculous price and wonder how the hell I convinced myself to continue doing it for so long.  I used to slam all kinds of energy drinks.  Every once in a while I go to the cheapo store and grab a rip it for a buck now.  I own my car which gets great gas mileage and don't owe anything to the regular debtors.

I have a hard time understanding how kids are surviving now when they are told to go off to school on huge student loans with out working.  Interest can kill you.  Im not some money genius very much the opposite but if it is so easy for me to see smart folks must be ripping out hair.

I get a laugh when people say you can't use steel ammo.  Its like dude this is supposed to be fun?!  I enjoy shooting a lot.  I allow myself to spend a ton of money on shit I don't really need around shooting because I take joy away from it.  I often times have just as much fun with a 500 dollar psa gun shooting tula shit as I do shooting a gap bolt gun through night vision.  The desire and the need to have the next gun is what really slays some people it is the same with every other addiction.

I sort of had some griping/envy about 18 months ago when I was hanging out with my friend and his wife.  They would talk about how they flew to Seattle for shopping last week, their last vacation to Maui, were on their way to dinner that night at a very expensive restaurant.  Meanwhile I scrape by paying down debt, living alone far below my means, never take vacations.  But like you, OP, I made some bad decisions in my 20's.

But then, my friend worked 2 weeks on in a camp in Prudhoe Bay.  His now-wife then-girlfriend worked as a teacher and they pay no housing costs because they lived rent free in the mother-in-law apartment of his mother's house.  So of course they had tons of money compared to me.  Had.

Caught up with him after they got married, bought a house and thus a mortgage that sucks up 1/3 of his income, had a kid and bought a new SUV.  His wife no longer works and now the days of vacations, weekly meals at Jack Sprat's and Seattle shopping trips are over.

And me?  All debt is gone.....and I downgraded my standard of living even further to start saving up capital.

What is their level of debt???  If everything is paid off and they're putting away a lot of savings every year then you have to look at your spending/savings habits.  Not necessarily 'you' personally.  There's a lot of truth to the saying, "it's not how much you make, but how much you spend".  Cue all the people who declare bankruptcy.

made some bad choices when young and it took me years to recover financially. will never be rich but i am comfortable with a good job, good family and good friends. i could work harder, go back to school etc and make a bit more, but that would cost me family and happiness that i am not willing to sacrifice at this point in my life.

i don't envy the super rich, nor do i blame others for the bad in the past i have gone through. It made me a stronger person and it was my path alone to walk.
