I see a lot of tanks here, just wondering what the ratios are. View Quote I know the rivelry is fierce here but you are excluding a branch. The U.S. Coast Guard and it's predecessors have been involved in every war, battle and spitball fight continuously since 1790, something not even the beloved Marines or Navy can contest to. It is the oldest continuously serving sea service that the United States has(some of the battle streamers and awards are listed here http://www.uscg.mil/history/FAQS/USCG_Battle_Streamers_2013.pdf). The history of the United States Coast Guard goes back to the Revenue Cutter Service, which was founded on 4 August 1790 as part of the Department of the Treasury. The Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Life-Saving Service were merged to become the Coast Guard per 14 U.S.C. § 1 which states: "The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times." In 1939, the United States Lighthouse Service was merged into the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard itself was moved to the Department of Transportation in 1967, and on 25 February 2003 it became part of the Department of Homeland Security. However, under 14 U.S.C. § 3 as amended by section 211 of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2006, upon the declaration of war and when Congress so directs in the declaration, or when the President directs, the Coast Guard operates as a service in the Department of the Navy. You don't have to like it but please give credit where it is due. P.S. Even though we've been kicked around from agency to agency like red headed step childeren we're still older than your Army Air Corps. |

Might as well throw in the FBI, local police, firefighters and postal service. How about CG senior officers that are in charge of navy vessels in the Persian gulf? The CG raid teams that were in Afghanistan? The WHECs that spent time in the Persian Gulf? The CG security teams doing security in the PG? The 8 USCG patrol boats that have been in the PG for 13 years now? The Cutters on the gun lines in Vietnam? The cutters doing coastal and river patrols in VN. All the coasties manning higgens boats and LSTs in WW2, putting people on the beaches and evading them. The cutters in WW2 having a higher percentage of U boat kills in WW2 than the Navy. The first Naval shots in the Civil War were fired by a Revenue Cutter. The whole UCMJ, military pay. US Code Section 14 states "shall be at all times a military service." Fuck |
