Yup.  All that steel-core 7.62X39, 5.45, 7.62X25, etc would tank ammo prices.

yes

I really think its a feel good anymore.    The folks that are out to kill cops aren't just taking one body shots anymore with a little .32.

They're taking head shot or using  rifles.

I could live with merely having exemptions made, such as for 7N6, surplus Russian X39, and x25.

I;d bet a few less people would be killed by bears if AP ammo for  pistols were legalized. I mean a 9mm with AP would kill a bear whereas heavy big bore soft lead hollow points and cast bullets arent that great and really slow down followup shots. there would also probably be fewer successful vehicular homocides.

The sad part is that all the mild steel core ammo that is banned from import isn't even "AP"...but the facts have never mattered in this fight to begin with.

Why yes!!!

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson

http://centralillinoisgunexchange.com/uploads/gallery/album_56/gallery_1_56_17564.jpg

"Solemnly, freely, and without mental reservation, I hereby renounce under oath all allegiance to any foreign state. My fidelity and allegiance from this day forward is to the United States of America. I pledge to support, honor, and be loyal to the United States, its Constitution, and its laws. Where and if lawfully required, I further commit myself to defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, either by military, noncombatant, or civilian service. This I do solemnly swear, so help me God"

Sorry sometimes the "good" guys are on the wrong side of the fence.

This.  Rifle plates can stop even AP rounds now.  Only Steel core pistol ammo would be neat.

It's all arbitrary bullshit, someone makes a pistol that shoots a traditional rifle round and then they say "see it's a pistol round".

Trying to make sense of it is a waste of time, like all gun laws they're written by idiots and only make sense to idiots.

What it boiled down to was the feds saying person A's life has less value than person B. You get killed by a bear or car because your .454 wouldnt kill a bear or your HP 9mil wouldnt penetrate a car door while a 9mm with a tongsten penetrator would? Tough shit. Police officer jim gets to live because he didnt get hit by a a AP round.

You see alot of that with the law. alot of group A gets fucked to save a few in group  B.

Usually group B is either employed by the government or voted the way the government wants them to. Group A, not so much.

I never really got it to begin with. Vests don't stop anything you can buy at Walmart other than .22s and plates stop just about anything handheld. Was there even an issue other than media hysteria? Has a single LEO (or anyone else for that matter) ever been killed by an "AP" pistol round?

lol

It is a pleasure to be able to sign into law
H.R. 3132 to ban the production or importation of the so-called
cop-killer bullets, which pose an unreasonable threat to law enforcement
officers who use soft body armor. This bill, similar to legislation
jointly submitted to the Congress by the Departments of Justice and the
Treasury in 1984, recognizes that certain forms of ammunition have no
legitimate sporting, recreational, or self-defense use and thus should
be prohibited. Such action is long overdue.

Steel core, doesn't even have anything to do with it actually being AP, as interpreted by BATFE, anyways.

Yup.... my Dept issue Level II vest isn't going to stop a common rifle round anyways like your run of the mill .30-30 Winchester or .30-06 Springfield.

So why the hell restrict me on my ability to purchase ammo? The AP Ban is stupid just because of how it is written and enforced. Steel core 7.62x39mm is illegal because a pistol can shoot it. Give me a break.... my vest wouldn't stop normal lead core either.

No interpretation required. The definition of "armor piercing" in the statute is specific. So if you want to blame someone for the law, blame the people who passed the statute: Congress.
If you wish to have the law repealed apply to the only people who can do that: Congress.
