I have an SR1911, got it for about $560, IIRC; I got my name on the list when they first came out, then got a call from the local fun shop a few months later. It's been a great gun. Very accurate too.

Did I make it in before "cast frames"?
But my brother got one a while back. His has had issues with surface rust. A bit of oil and it comes off, but it's a pretty ongoing problem with it. YMMV, not sure where or how he keeps/stores his. It's been a good reliable gun though (somehow) |

One of the best 1911s for the money.
For me, it's: RIA -> SR1911 ->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dan Wesson I suppose you could squeeze a Springfield Range Officer or Sig in there if you found one at the right price. |

If you are military or law enforcement then make sure you use their available programs...save some dough!

It's hard to say no, and I have cigarette money saved up, I quit 18 months ago and I put my cig money in an envelope for shit like this, and overpriced boolits but ya, no reason to not own one of these specimens. How the hell can you go wrong, right?

Old lady be all like 'why do you need another gawddam GUN???' I be all like - "It ain't a need, it's a WANT. - I want to own it, shoot it, pet it, clean it, be nice to it, and name it George" |

Springfield Milspec is the same price. Or you could spend $200 more and get a Springfield Loaded model. Or, he could get the Ruger and spend ~$200 on 400 rounds of ammo. |

OK then, Commander or full size? I am not a big guy if that helps and yeah I want to carry it occasionally.
Not sure the extra 3/4 inch makes all that much difference? |
|
Little Pony wants the Commander but I would like the full size myself.
|

Mine was $620. Sold as used but I don't think it had a box of ammo through it, orange stickers were still on the mags. Under $600? Shit, I'd probably buy another one. NICE trigger for a box-stock gun.

I got one. Paid $649 for mine. I say Fo.... Really nice piece.

View Quote having carried Govt size for many years I switched to a Combat Commander (steel frame) and loved it.....I carried that for a while then picked up a Colt Lightweight Commander with the alloy frame....it's the most comfortable carry option I have |

I love mine, but I also have this issue. That being said, I love the SR1911, and have had no reliability issues with it. The sandwich maker made a good decision when she got me that one for Christmas. ETA Pic: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r210/ryan_jarvis3/Ruger%20Pistols/IMG_0379_zpsd32dbed8.jpg SWEET! Anyone who dosen't love Ruger firearms has something wrong with 'em, in my opinion. And I am a Glock dude too! My mind is my Glocks and LCP are like my daily drivers, always there, clean, oil and fuel 'em and you can always count on 'em. They are always close. Something like the SR1911 or the Ruger Old Army black powder revolver I was bragging about a little while back are Sunday 'Cadillac' guns, where the dudes at the range drool and axe you if they can run a mag or two thru it to try that bad ass little baby out. PEW PEW PEW! And everyone smiles and nods. |

LOL if there's a way to move this over to the handgun/1911 forum that is prob where this should be.
How do we do that? |
|
If you can get one for under $600 buy two. One for you and one for me.

My BIL has one. Loves it. I liked it too. It sent me to the store fore my Kimber...Bought a Sig (see thread). Anyway, if that is all your budget will afford, nice gun. If you can stretch a few $100, the world is your oyster.

Front sight will likely sheer off. This is a huge problem Ruger had with them.
Supposedly they are using fully machined front sights now instead of the MIM shit that was breaking for the past 36 months. |

You probably won't be disappointed. I shoot mine, and I'm keeping it. It looks great, works great, and drives tacks.

I got a commander length one black friday for $550. It for whatever reason does NOT like hollow points. It has been back to ruger and they polished the feed ramp a bit and advised I try a different magazine but it still has issues usually only when rapid firing tho. Other than that its ok.

I'm about 6,000 rounds into mine. Love it.
Zero malfunctions....all reloads. |
|
I worked on one for a film crew. Mags were trash. Worse than SportmansGuide Chinese trash. YMMV
