Many people keep saying America's police forces aren't being militarized, yet the police keep getting military equipment hand me downs and many wear military camo uniforms (multi-cam, ACU). I mean I'm not paranoid about it, but the people downplaying it can surely see how they are wrong.

According to the news last night, our county, Lane, got more than any other county in Oregon. With the amount of trucks listed I highly doubt that this is county only. Likely includes the cities in the county as well. I've never seen our deputies with colts, they issue bushmasters so the colts must have gone elsewhere. The prices seem inflated as well. They have two quads listed at $12k each. Maybe when new but they are not even close to being new. I think that they have three or four humves as well but they were in terrible shape. A bunch of money had to be put into them to be made usable.

Hoooly crap dude are you Fed DC's evil Canadian twin? I've managed until now to ignore some of the other obvious troll remarks you've made but before you type another retarded thought into this tread remember two things genius; This is a thread about the all the stuff the military is "giving"/loaning our police departments including gazzillions of M-4's/16's, M-14's M-40's or other long range precision systems, handguns, grenade launchers, range finders, helo's, aircraft, MRAP's and bayonets (which may have other purposes (like slicing boglona) but which has a primary purpose of destroying your enemies will or desire to continue fighting by inflicting wounds which will cause a catastrophic loss of blood-up close-and personal-eyeball to eyeball-spit to spit. What these police departments and counties choose to do with all this stuff is up to them but there is no denying that there are some counties in this country that now have more weapons in their police forces than several countries-----including yours. Secondly, this is America where we historically have a pretty high suspicion of what .gov is up to. There are quiet a few Americans these days concerned with a whole host of issues, scandals, and this arms race which leads to even more distrust. There is a solid foundation for this distrust because this is how ( Insert the name of EVERY Tyrant or country in the world here) took power and subverted liberty before us. Just because some county takes a couple of cheese slicers "on loan" from .mil along with their 274 M-4's and assorted tanks and artillery pieces doesn't make them some sort of benevolent charity. And if you are going to tell me that everything law enforcement does is good and holy.....and they only arrest and inprision "bad guys and ugly people" just stop-nobody believes you anymore. So....now troll away. I'm going to enjoy reading what you have to say. |

Most likely the federal government would give it away to another country or they would destroy it. At least if the local government gets it and they're able to sell it later to buy stuff they need that tax money that I pay in that doesn't have to be used. Ideally the Feds would sell the surplus stuff on the open market and use that money to reduce my overall federal tax burden but that's not going to happen so this is probably the next best thing. |

Yep, nothing to worry about here in Mayberry Indiana. Several 5.56 rifles, a couple of 7.62 rifles, and an Armored truck. Looks like a pretty good deal to me. $499 for what I presume are M4's and $138 for what I assume are surplus Rem 700's. The Truck was $65,000 or so, but probably pretty good deal considering a new Tahoe or Suburban is probably over $40k these days.

My county seems to have scored about 20 45 caliber pistols, a couple hundred rifles in 5.56 and 7.62, and a bunch of random crap included up armored HUMVEEs.

Enough helicopters, fixed wing aircraft and parts for an army, plus 6 pages of rifles, 5.56 and 7.62, 1 MRAP, 1 LAV and a couple of trucks.
Brevard County FL Funny thing is, I hang out at the airport where the Aviation unit is based and there's 3 heliflopters there... wonder where the rest of the air arm is? |

I feel much safer knowing a local county has 2 MRAP's and a PARACHUTE!? Seriously. A fucking parachute. Also 75 flashlights that cost 900$ each. (As well a dozens of grenade launchers, rifles, night vision, etc.ect.)

The county didn't get a couple of helicopters, a couple cities did, etc. The County SO got 3 helicopters- OH-58's that are in flying condition and the rest are parts birds- most of which have been scrapped-, but I'd like to know what city got the multi-million dollar fixed-wing bird(s). It sure as hell wasn't Titusville or Cocoa... |

Many people keep saying America's police forces aren't being militarized, yet the police keep getting military equipment hand me downs and many wear military camo uniforms (multi-cam, ACU). I mean I'm not paranoid about it, but the people downplaying it can surely see how they are wrong. Police forces aren't being militarized. If you're considering military style uniforms and equipment, then they've always been militarized. The only thing that bothers me is why cant I buy the stuff. |

Because the vehicles are unsafe to drive on the roads and weapons of war have no place on our city streets. |

I'm thinking I would love to set up my man cave with an ICBM launch center though. |

County sheriff has an MRAP. There's 35 M16's on the list. I know the University PD got several of those. Couple of shotguns. That's it.
